It's well thought out. However, it completely ignores Article II. It's as if congress doesn't exist.
It comes from the monarchical view of government, where the president runs everything. That's not our system.
No indeed. It's all kinds of bad, and encompasses much more than the FCC and broadcasting, which is why it's so difficult to stay on track here I think. It's all interrelated, for Congress passed a law that established the FCC, which is also part of the executive branch, so it's almost impossible to discuss FCC policy without discussing those as well. Especially now.
CPB/NPR is cooked for sure now. He'll find a way to get rid of our funding and/or seriously neuter what we can say.
And before anyone says.. "He doesnt have that power" "He can't do that".
Has that stopped him so far?
Nope. So far, this administration has shown little regard for the law, even almost to the point of openly defying the judicial branch, which is a very dangerous red line.
For what it's worth, I hope you can find a way to keep your station on the air somehow if your funding gets cut!
It would require significant Congressional action, because it would upset the balance that was struck when the LCRA was signed into law.
I don't see this Congress right now taking that kind of action.
Neither do I. Congress (primarily the House) has been good for nothing for at least the past three election cycles (maybe more; one could argue that the current level of dysfunction began way back in 2009 when the Republican Tea Partyers came onboard; Obama once called them "the party of no" for a reason (I believe this is a direct quote, but I'm not sure, so take that with an appropriately sized rain of salt)).
Just a year or two ago, it took them
thirteen tries to get Mike Johnson elected Speaker.
Thirteen votes! They're so dysfunctional, they can't seem to agree on basic and routine stuff!
Anyway, I don't wish for this post to be deleted because of these paragraphs, but if it is, so be it. I understand the need to keep this place sane

.
If it'll help, I'll try to add something relevant: if the WH gets its way and assumes the power to review all decisions (which seems frightfully likely at this point), do any of you think that it could lead to the possibility of Trump interfering with an ordinary, routine transaction (a license renewal or sale, say) and possibly cancelling it outright if he doesn't like any detail of it for some reason? Or maybe even preemptively revoking licenses for stations that have been targeted by he and his cronies (KCBS, for example). Speaking of KCBS, the whole Audacy and Soros brouhaha comes to mind here....
