A lot of TV news people have radio backgrounds. I was a jock/ music director/program director for ten years before switching to news in 1981. In less than a year, I was hired do do news on TV, which I did for 30 years.

During that time, there were radio guest hosting and fill-in shots, as well as regular gigs alongside my TV work, including a morning show with Charlie Van Dyke and a talk show at KTAR.

For the last ten years, I’ve been back in radio news, the last eight in my home state of California.

Ronn Owens at one point made TV appearances on San Francisco TV news while being a primary talk host on KGO-AM.

Claude Mann got his start in radio in Texas before moving to KSBW, KXTV and KTVU as part of their TV News teams.

Dan Lovett also got his start on KILT Radio before ABC got him to do news segments in Houston , New York, ABC News, ABC Sports and San Francisco.

Interestingly Lovett made a return to radio at WFAN In New York before ABC moved him to KGO-TV as his final TV stop.
