TV shows you HATED even though just about everyone else you knew loved

There are lots of loosely wrapped people in the world, and they watch TV like the rest of us. I've heard more than a few stories about actors who play soap-opera villains. When they're recognized in public, people will curse them, and even spit on them. It's not surprising that there are a considerable number of sad people with not much to do in their lives who watch way too much TV. The soaps in particular, seem to become reality for these people.
The same can be said about Wrestling back in the day. I have heard of Heel Wrestlers in some towns having to drive old clunkers to where they were wrestling in order to keep some of the fans from slashing their tires and doing damage to their cars because they could not separate FACT FROM FICTION.

Good points here. A practical example:

San Bernardino, Ca., circa 1963. Parking lot of the old San Bernardino Arena, now departed, a small, dumpy venue seating maybe 2,000 at the most. About an hour before bell time, Freddie Blassie, already a legend in wrestling, and at the prime of his career, pulls up into the parking lot. He is driving a brand-spanking new Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Portraying the number one villian at the time, he is met with jeers by a few bystanders.

During his match, he "finds a way" to clutch victory out of the hands of defeat, in other words, cheat, as wrestling heels often do. This enrages the crowd. The show is over, and he goes to take his shower. His shower is interrupted by another wrestler, telling him he better go outside immediately.

His brand new Coupe de Ville has been torched. It becomes a total loss. There are many witnesses to the fire, but no one can identify who did it. It's suspected that the mob was protecting whoever did it. Blassie refuses to wrestle in San Bernardino again, a vow that lasted for at least two years.

Having grown up in San Bernardino, I can testify that refusing to do much of anything there is always a good idea.

...examples in point: the guy who shot at Nick Bockwinkel after a match with Verne Gagne in Chicago circa '74 (Bockwinkel tells the story on the WWE DVD The Spectacular Legacy of the AWA), and the guy who somehow got into the ring in Boston and attacked Black Jack Mulligan with a straight razor not long after that (that story was told me personally by Bob Luce, the great Chicago promoter who staged the earlier match)...

Not directly on topic, but having to do with Wrestling..Jack Reynolds, known for his announcing wrestling matches on Cleveland's WUAB-TV 43 and later in national syndication, passed away last week. He was also known as an all night DJ for years on WWWE-1100 (WTAM). His son, Tony Rizzo, does sports on WJW-Fox 8 and hosts a show on WKNR-850 AM.

Back when it was on, Friends, but now, if nothing else is on, i will watch it on WPCH or TBS.

To this day, I still hate, The Cosby Show, Saved By The Bell, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Seinfeld, House of Payne, ALL the Law and Orders, ALL the CSIs (esp CSI: Miami)

Those are the ones that I can think of, off the top of my head.

I used to like House M.D., but the rabid fanbase and hype gradually turned me off to it.  ::)

Hundreth me in on the Everybody Loves Raymond hate.

7th Heaven is terrible but seems to be in syndication on every second-tier cable network. I do enjoy giving it the MST3K treatment.

I absolutely detest Boston Legal. I started to watch the show last season because John Larroquette had been cast and I'm a huge Night Court fan. What made me hate the show was how the legal drama took a backseat to Denny and Alan's shenanigans and that absolutely every character had to be in a romantic relationship of some kind. I didn't care for the flimsy Carl Sack and Shirley Schmidt pairing at all. As for Carl Sack being a John Larroquette character, I had expected him to be the cruel bully with an ace up his sleeve, not the wimpy bully with a dominatrix girlfriend and a grudge against Denny Crane that gladly excepts the wacky activities of the Police Academy-esque law firm.  I mean, Dan Fielding just barely put up with Criminal Court Part II, but Carl Sack completely turned and was in love with Crane, Poole and Schmidt by his third episode.

In my opinion, the absolute worst waste of Television is/was Fear Factor.

I'm not crazy about any of the Extreme makeover shows.

Melrose place was kind of dumb, but the first season wasn't too bad. Once they turned it into a soap-like drama it got really dumb and I lost complete interest.

Party of five is hard to explain. I kind of liked the show, likely due to Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert. But some of the characters were so whiny and self centered that it perturbed me at the same time. It made me want to reach through the TV screen and b*tch-slap them. And I think they guy characters were worse than some of the girl characters. Not the fault of the actors, I blame the writers.

Another bizarre one for me are all of these judge shows. I can't get into them. The people who participate are so stupid and annoying. I do like Judge Judy though, especially when she berates the idiots in her courtroom. Someone I used to work with was recently on Judge Judy. It was great to watch her berate him as his claim was irrational and unfounded. I felt that justice was served by Judge Judy.

I would also have to add to the bad TV list any time Fox covers a baseball game. I know a few people who watch the game on TV with the volume down, and tune in an AM radio for the comentary whenever the game is on Fox.

Dishonorable mention also goes to celebrity gossip shows like E.T. and Access Hollywood. I couldn't care less.

Let me also add Survivor, as many others have, and Big Brother, what a stupid boring show.

The award definately goes to Fear Factor though. If I had to rate the all-time worst waste of Television that I ever sat through, it would definately go to Fear Factor.

* * * This is a fun topic. I think perhaps a fun twist on this topic might be shows we actually watched, but would never publicly admit to watching, and enjoying. * * *

Alice
loathe Family Guy, South Park(probably the best example for me for this thread), Nanny 911,ANY CURRENT REALITY SHOW, America's Funniest Home Videos or any type of Bloopers & Practical jokes show...(What's so funny about watching someone fly off a speeding dirtbike & fly into a wall head first? Coulda broke his neck! Not amusing to me.
Kids say the darndest things, Scrubs, A Different World, Drew Carey, as a kid I hated Star Trek but liked it after I grew up, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, ANYTHING MTV airs these days, I also don't think Raymond is funny. Too much arguing & screaming. I must end with two words: CARSON DALY!!! ::)

Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Wonder Years, According To Jim, Yes,Dear, Still Standing, Friends, Murphy Brown, Anything with Roseanne Barr and Ellen DeGeneres.

This may be a twist on the subject but.... I really liked 'Welcome Back, Kotter' when I was in Grammar School. But now as I have seen some 'retro' episodes, man was that a stupid show!

I also hated more than anything was 'Full House'.

I also cannot stand any 'reality' show. Also someone mentioned 'Bloopers Blunders and Practical Jokes'. That show was such a fake. By fake I mean the fake laughter Dick Clark would do after a clip was shown. That show was so edited it was stomach turning. When Dick would voice over a clip, "watch the guy at the counter" NO SH*T Sherlock!! Don't tell me what to look at I will see it on the screen!! They would have a 'guest star' to introduce bloopers from their show. It was all so coaxed and rehearsed that it made me sick.

Speaking of making me sick, I will throw in all of those hollywood tabloid shows, 'E.T'., 'Access Hollywood', 'TMZ' 'The Insider'. I don't give a SH*T about any of the hollywood gossip. Let them live their lives in private and leave the stars alone.

Yes - it's kind of embarrassing to watch shows you loved as a kid and realize how awful they are. I was a little kid in the early 60s and absolutely loved the detective shows of the time - mostly the ones produced by Warner Bros - 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, Surfside 6, etc. These shows were HUGE, and some of the actors (like Ed "Kookie" Burns) were big stars for awhile

A few years ago, one of the Retro TV networks was re-running them, and I was really excited they were back. I was expecting them to seem dated, but not purely awful. Horrible scripts, totally unrealistic, slow-moving, often poorly acted, worst of all - INCREDIBLY cheap. There was one '"Hawaiian Eye" scene with Robert Conrad chasing a crook through the "Hawaiian" jungle. It looked totally fake - you could tell it was shot on a sound stage, not even outdoors at Warners - and you clearly see that some of the tropical plants and trees were in pots. Unbelievable.

I remember way back in the mid 90's when the National Enquier's Mike Walker had his own syndicated talk radio show. I remember during one show Walker made a claim that whenever the economy goes bad...sales of the National Enquier/Globe/National Examiner/Star/US/People and so forth...skyrockets. I wonder how much truth there is to that and if it is true, with the current economy being the way it is does it mean shows like TMZ, ET and so forth ..are experiencing great ratings right now?

No...not a fan of those shows either.
