TV'S MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS OF THE LAST 50 YEARS

I'm Surprised that the Loma Prieta Quake did not make the top 20 list.

Casey Anthony Verdict should not be on the list

Let alone OJ twice in the top ten... So the Apollo moon landing doesn't make the cut, but Whitney Houston's death does?

Yeah, that's very odd, also considering that the only events on the list prior to 1980 are the assassination and funeral of JFK. This has got to be composed of just top-of-mind stuff for viewers, as if it's a Family Feud question, and not an objective list.

Yes, the moon landing should have made it also.

I would gather that "votes" were taken on the weekend Whitney Houston died......thus the
big bump for her. Poll is interesting, but how it was written and presented is important.
If 9/11 was presented at the top of the list..................that would affect some votes, etc.

It calls to mind a "Top 500 rock songs of all time" a station in Birmingham put together in the early '80s. On it there are a number of tunes by Men At Work, Billy Squier and a few other acts that were big at the time. Today, while "Down Under" is recognized as a big '80s hit, would anyone really consider it on the same level as "Layla" or "Comfortably Numb"?

IMO, any "Top ____ moments" list should NOT include anything in the last ten years for just that reason. No moon landing? That's crazy.

How about the Vietnam War, Iraq War I and President Reagan's assassination attempt in 1981, John Lennon's Death, Jonestown Genocide, and Elvis Death I thought it would be Higher on the list.

Also Harvey Milk's death I thought it would have higher rankings and Magic Johnson's HIV announcement, and the 1993 World Trade Attacks. Northridge Quake, Sylmar quake and the Pan Am attack in 1988 should have been on the list.

Maybe there's no moon landing because so many people believe that there really was no moon landing? (er, not me, I'm pretty sure they did land on the moon)

The Vietnam War was not one single televised event but it definitely should have made the list as it was the single most defining event of the latter half of the 20th century.

Reagan's assassination was unsuccessful, otherwise it would have made the list.

The death of John Lennon, while unexpected, did not affect the lives of many Americans. Neither did Jonestown or the death of Elvis. Had Elvis died at the top of his game it would have been big news but by 1977 he was long out of the public spotlight and had become a parody of himself.

Most Americans outside of San Francisco don't know who Harvey Milk was. And Magic's lifestyle left little doubt in many minds what his outcome would be. The vast majority of Americans don't follow the NBA - Magic meant nothing to them.

The various California earthquakes were definitely newsworthy in California but not elsewhere. Earthquakes in CA are not unexpected.

And the Pan Am attack is just one event in a long list of terrorist attacks. While newsworthy it was not all that unusual even for the time.

O.J.? Whitney Houston? Don't make me laugh.

its real simple... if someone 25-35 is responding to the question.. the JFK/RFK or MLK assasinations, the moon landing will mean nothing to them as a TV event, they never saw it or lived through it... they can't appreciate the impact it had on History, because they were not around to witness it, it doesn't matter to them.
rather sad when you think of it.....

According to the Sony poll, viewers in their 20s and 30s consider
9/11 to be the most memorable event; those of us 50 and older
rank the JFK assassination as the most memorable.

I think it is more than just age. 9/11 took place on live TV while JFK's assassination did not. The Zapruder film came out later but was not shown until well after the assassination.

Im surprised that the Exxon Valdez Spill did not make the list or the Mars Mission make the list or even Live Aid in 1985 did.

Casey who? ;D
That is exactly it if you don't watch HLN or TruTV you basically have no clue who Casey Anthony is. I had no clue who she is But I thought Watergate should have been on top of the list.
