Janet Babin is leaving WCPN, and heading up part-production for "Marketplace," a national news-features radio show on public stations. She is the third to go from the formerly well-stocked news coffers at WCPN.

John Gorman wrote about WCPN's woes a couple weeks ago (look about 3/4 way down the page--"Cohabitation Blues").

And here's one that will have Triv's sumo-sized panties (and Kim's substantially smaller, and likely not-as-stained ones) in a twist--Kenny Roda was chosen to be among those who vote in the new Harris College Football Rankings Poll, which replaced the AP Poll as but one of a series of inputs into the logorithm what is called the BCS (Bowl Championship Series). Congratulations to Roda.

I can hear Triv now, bloviating that Roda has no talent, etc., and Triv's played (or coached, or seen, or touched, or read about) football, so he's more qualified to determine who should be in the playoffs.

I think the NCAA took issue with Triv's pro-gambing stance.

They have actually lost more staffers than that, from what I have heard (and unlike Roger Brown...I hear it first-hand haha). There's also a possibility another couple of staffers might be giving notice in the near future as they're being pursued by network opportunities or just done with it. Have you heard their new morning guy? I'll just say the preset I had set has been removed and replaced with their competitor in Kent.

Please refrain from such graphically-disgusting comments on this board again! ;)

I haven't heard the new AM guy. But I find the comment from Kit Jensen, ideastream COO downright laughable:

"It cycles through, it's a very natural evolution," said Jensen. "We generally have people here for around five or six years [because of the market size]. What we have is a healthy station. We are recruiting every year, looking to bring on new, talented people."

Cycles I'll agree with--radio stations fade in and out of vogue (look at WGAR--REAL big in mid-90s, then dropped down a few for a while, and back with a vengeance as of late). And I understand that radio jobs cycle too, especially with a non-profit, who's in competition with commercial stations and other, more "profitable" non-profits.

But losing three staffers in 18 months, including the news director and the main local reporter/mid-morning host (critically-acclaimed, no less), and now losing the politics reporter--that's insane. You're doing SOMETHING WRONG if all of these folks are leaving in seeming succession. And it stings particularly bad when your ND leaves for your competition down the road.

And I should mention, it appears that general concensus is that WKSU does it better than WCPN anyway.

I wonder if ideastream wasn't a bad idea from the start--it made sense from a money standpoint, but are the money people now running things? (I note too that WVIZ's quality has diminished as of late. They're doing more small things, some local stuff, and doing them fairly cheaply [both quality and cost]).

Oh well. Maybe I should send a tape--who knows. It's not as if they'll have me around more than 5 years anyway!

When Triv stops eating on-air, and Lanigan stops answering his own interview questions, and Allan Fee realizes he's not king of the world (or at least Radio Lane).

The political infighting that goes on at Public Radio Stations is legendary in some markets..while you're paid rather well in comparison to your commercial counterparts, the amount of nonsense you deal with gets old in a hurry..

And I'd rather keep a picture of Kim's underwear in my mind..she's cute :)
