Unfamous people with famous names: Fodder for Oprah, Dr. Phil, etc.?

There was also a Mike Jackson who was a relief pitcher with the Phillies and Indians, among other teams. This is in addition to the former Raven & Brown named Michael Jackson that was mentioned earlier.

Around the time I was in high school in the Philadelphia area, there was a basketball player for Abington Friends School named Michael Jordan. He even wore #23. He went on to play at the University of Pennsylvania, and I believe he may still be playing pro ball overseas.

I've actually met two different Steve Martins. One was a church youth minister, and the other was an electrician. I also knew of a Jerry Lewis who was a truck driver, and Johnnie Carson used to be the road commissioner where I grew up. When I was a kid my doctor's name was James Bond(s). Also, there is currently a preacher in my area named Michael Jordan. I've never met him, but the sign on his church has his name on it.

A local hospital had a PR guy named Tim McVeigh. Was always a hoot to hear the receptionist page you when he called.

WAVY has a news anchor whose name is David Nelson.
 
In junior high I knew a kid named James Taylor. There was a guy a few years older than I was who worked in the high school computer lab, whose name was Paul Williams. And a guy in L.A. named Dennis Miller who runs the Rocky Horror Fan Club.

When I was stationed at "A" School in Dam Neck VA, I was working the fast food line at the galley when a big white guy named Michael Jackson came up and put his name on the roster. I stupidly said something like, "Holy [cow] it's Michael Jackson". He sighed and rolled his eyes, then angrily stated, "If you ask me to sing 'Beat It' I'll beat your face!"

I felt like a schmuck after that, and as he was eating I came up and apologized. He said, "That's alright, I'll always get that." Live and learn.

First, Hitler was an Austrian pretending to be a German. Some historians contend that he had some Jewish blood in his ancestry, but that's another topic for another forum at another time.

In the US, Adolph/Adolf as a male first name is not all that common...overall, the popularity of the name had started to drop off early in the 1900s, prior to the rise of the Third Reich. Another variation, Adolfo, has been gaining in popularity in recent years, however. As for Germany, I can't really say. My brief look into the subject seems to suggest that the name became less common there after the Nazi regime, though not as dramatic a drop as one would think. Naming babies after Großvater [Grandfather] Adolf, for example.
