UNID Country Music 730 and 880 AM 1/8/2010

Tonight, I heard Tim McGraw country music way under CHMJ Vancouver on 730. I don't know what this is at all.

Also, under KIXI on 880, I heard Billy Currington's "People are Crazy". CKLQ's stream was different. KRVN???

Any help would be great, thank you.

My guess would be KRVN on your unID 880. That would be yet another longball DX catch for you.

No ideas on your 730, but keep trying for KRVN. I've heard that they can be heard in California. Washington should be doable too.

Perhaps it's CKDM on 730, Crain?

The Radio-Locator people have them sending a lot of their juice east and west. And one overnight long ago they made it to Lawn Guyland.

Well, it looks like 730 IS CKDM, thank you!

Distance-1011 miles!!!! :) :) :)

And, 880 is KRVN thanks to you guys!!!

Distance-1232 miles!!!!!!!!! YESSSSS!    :) :) :)

This makes last night one of the biggest new logging nights EVER, 7 new ones in one night!!!!

Crain,

Perhaps ID'ing AM stations is easier on the less-crowded Western dial, but how much do you need to hear before you positively ID a station? For me, I always like to hear at the very least one or two local mentions, area codes, etc. in a commercial. If it's a music station, I always try to see if they have a webstream, then I like to ID one or two songs back to back. The 'slam dunk' of course is if I can get a positive call letter mention. Those are the only ways I will log a station. I just don't know if I can hear one format or program on any given frequency and assume that it's what i'm hearing. Unless if it's all polkas or Radio Disney, then I can usually figure it out.

When I started logging AM stations in late 2005, I was also confirming 6-7 stations a day. It gets harder to ID new ones once you've made it to 750+ loggings, but at this point it makes it more exciting to actually confirm one you haven't already heard. It was very exciting to confirm KNX in my location earlier this week. I don't know if I can top that one, but i'm going to try. I'm looking at KNBR or CBU now. Both stations look to throw a decent amount of power in my direction.

Keep it up with the DX'ing. Not too many of us anymore and it's actually pretty cool to hear from someone who is obviously very passionate about the hobby.

Some stations don't have webstreams or even a web page. If I listen to a song, if could go right to the next one. I wait for an ID or even check AM logbook while I am listening to the station (690 Prineville, OR is the only classic country station in the US on that frequency, I found it that way).
