UNID Motown/soul oldies station on 1440

On Sunday around sunset (19:12 CT) in San Antonio, I heard a station that I haven’t been able to identify. It was playing ‘60/‘70s tunes by James Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and Aretha Franklin.

The only ID I heard was “The Best - Solid Gold Motown Soul.” I didn’t hear any other DJ talk because XEEST kept mixing in and taking over.

It did not match the stream/playlist of oldies KAZG in Scottsdale, AZ, or classic rock KETX in Livingston, TX.

I couldn’t get a working stream of classic hits KRDZ in Wray, CO, at the time, but I called that station Monday and was told that they don’t have a Motown/soul show.

I caught the station again on Wednesday around the same time while at home. It was in/out with songs by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Rose Royce, and Billy Ocean, and I heard a “Solid Gold Soul” ID, but XEEST eventually took over. The signal appeared to be coming from northeast of me.

Anyone have an idea what this could be? Maybe a station that recently changed its format?

@jim-satx I’ve heard 1440-WZYX Cowan, TN surprisingly well a few times during the evening here in DFW, certainly on day power. Could be your unid station.

Mystery solved. It’s the new format for KTUV (formerly La Voz) in Little Rock, AR.

I listened to the Wednesday recording again and heard “The Cat” along with the “Solid Gold” and “Motown” IDs. A search on “The Cat” led me to 1340 KCAT in Pine Bluff, AR, which is described on its website as “Solid Gold Motown Soul.”

A little while ago I listened to KCAT’s stream and heard KTUV listed along with the K224FN translator at the station ID.
