Entercom and Clear Channel radio are doing an outstanding job of handling the human tragedy in and around the New Orleans area. With WWL 870 airing most of the coverage (consolidated), they have covered it nonstop. Too bad, FEMA cant even operate on a timely schedule.

Need an aircheck of the TOH ID please

I've been listening also and agree with you. Unfortunately, I need an ID of their TOH. Can you record it for me since I'm nowhere near a recorder when WWL is coming in?

Well, yeah but that kinda defeats the point of actually *receiving* WWL now, doesn't it?

Remember I do authentic off the air recordings.
______________

My bad. I'll see if I can hit the signal tonight as well, and get an "authentic", if my cheap system can pick it up tonight. I'm curious about the ID myself. Hell half the company talk guys are down there, I will have to listen. CFKane

It's also available on shortwave, via South Carolina. Details:

Am hearing it right now on 9840 kc. Sure is loud -- often 40 db over S9 on a less-than-perfect antenna. Signal should be available around the clock on one of the frequencies.

I suspect there was a bit of a blackout earlier, as we had an X-13 (yes 13!) solar flare, but we're OK now.

I've been listening every night but unfortunately I don't go home after my night gig... I head to the other gig and catch a nap in my car... Extreme, I know but with gas at 3 bucks a gallon...

You know, with the company connections in your building maybe they can get us some GOOD recordings for posterity :)
______________

Wow I wondered about that. And considering I do have a SW radio with me there's a possibility! Among other things, I gotta write an article about the New Orleans radio situation in light of Katrina's aftermath.

got a new website for you guys... www.radiobb.com. Check it out.

What, and no E-skip on FM?
______________

That'll work. You'll hear the New Orleans IDs, and the South Carolina ID (WHRI)once in a while.

They'll be switching to ~60m soon. That should be loud, too. Daytime, they are in the 19m band, which may not be quite as easy to hear; it's a bit short to here that high, but will work much of the time.

> What, and no E-skip on FM [due to the X-13 flare]?

Well, the direct relationship between E and an X-flare is attenuated, at best. Now, we may get some Aurora, which, as you know, can trigger some sporadic E, from time to time.

Sadly, this is on the Eastern limb of the Sun, so the Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) will not be Earth-facing. We'll see if the spot continues to burp as it transits the Sun.

WWL HF Frequencies.

Pardon me for replying to my own post...

I was just looking on the Internet (by the way -- I am thinkin' one day this Internet thing is going to be big) and it seems that the WHRI simulcast is a bit slapdash time-wise.

It does not appear that they are running WWL parallel from 7p to 12a right now. The 60m transmitter picks up at midnight Central.

If you want to check it out during the evenings, 870 should be loud direct, with some interference -- if you hear some beeps at the top of the minutes beneath New Orleans, that's Radio Reloj in Sancti Spiritus, central Cuba. 1kw, according to the Cubans.

Is Jupiter aligned with Mars?

Yeah, that's what I saw, but it doesn't seem to be correct.

This morning, they were not on 5.835 as scheduled, and they are not on 11.785 right now, as scheduled. 9.840 is on, running non-WWL stuff.

We'll see if they bring up 15.285 on schedule.

But, boy, was 9.840 strong yesterday afternoon.

That's a shame, because I still answer the phone with "I listen to the new sound of 11.785!" Guess there's no t-shirt in my future...

THere is a top of the hour ID, but its within the standard 5 minute window. Also WWL is doing constant Hurricane relief news updates about every 30 minutes. The consolidated broadcast is coming through WWL studios. I would guess the best time to catch it on the radio is from 8Pm until 3 am local time.

wwl shortwave..

if you cant get it you can get a wind up shortwave antenna at radio shack. or you can get a piece of 25ft wire and attach an alligator clip to the wire and clip it on your antenna..then you will be able too!! i am also a shortwave listner..i have the rat shack antenna..it works great! daytime has the best reception..doesnt bounce like nighttime reception..also last night the shortwave broadcast and the wwl broadcast were only a few seconds apart..
______________
