KOMO, IFIRC, has been the Husky station for about three decades or more. Prior, KIRO had the rights, with the late Pete Gross calling their football games in the mid-70's. iheart probably sees this as a way to maintain some importance in a vanishing radio revenue world.
Fortunately, on the FM side, iheart's 96.5 has a better signal than KOMO's 97.7.

Actually, I beleive KJR carried Husky football for quite a few years during the aughts. It was not the best of times for the program, however, so easy to forget!
