Univision Outdelivers ABC, NBC, CBS, or FOX Nearly Every Night During May Sweep

Re: Fox Outdelivers ABC, NBC, CBS, or Univison

Variety says Fox is tops, with Univision in fifth place

It's a Univision corporate press release, so you need independent verification (which proves that it is not true). The numbers cited are in the thousands, and the big four "English" networks have numbers in the millions, although nowadays on the low end. They are sexing it up.

I understand that KMEX Los Angeles beats the big four (KABC, KCBS, KNBC, KTTV) for news ratings. That has been verified.

But they did beat the CW and My Network TV. This does show the growth in the Spanish speaking population in the US (another debate for another board).

Re: Univision Outdelivers ABC, NBC, CBS, or FOX Nearly Every Night During May Sw

The 'fifth' American network isn't The CW or MyNetworkTV, it's Univision. They often beat out those two English networks in the national ratings, and they do especially well on weekends (due to Sabado Gigante).

That's horrible for NBC, they're losing out on English and Spanish via (Telemundo)

Chicago has 3 Spanish stations and another low power Spanish stations, so it seems well covered as the census for the Chicago Metro Area shows 9.1 million people and just over a million that speak Spanish.

Don't buy in to hype from a press release. Univision is doing well in one demo. They are not the most watched network in the country. They are highly watched in one demo. Big deal.

This isn't a big shock.

In most markets, the Spanish-speaking population only has Univision or Telemundo to choose from. Demographically speaking, that segment of the population is also the least likely to have cable or satellite.

In essence, you have millions of Hispanophones concentrated on only one or two Spanish-language networks, and billions of Anglophones spread out among 7 broadcast networks and 600+ digital cable or satellite stations. If you do the math, it makes sense!
