Van Pelt and Russillo Reunite for Podcast to Launch June 3

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=c40521

Former ESPN Radio co-hosts Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo will recreate the chemistry they enjoyed with sports conversation in a new podcast, SVP & Russillo. The one-hour offering will debut June 3. After three monthly editions, in September the show will become bi-weekly. Their former ESPN Radio show was heard for six years weekday afternoons until mid-2015.

"We just figured, if we are going to talk on the phone for 45 minutes, we might as well record it and make it a podcast," said Van Pelt. "We enjoyed our time together on radio, and it's amazing the loyalty and appetite our listeners still have for us. I couldn't be more fired up."

Van Pelt and Russillo were previously on radio til 2015. Now they are on Podcast.

Interesting decision...does it reflect Russillo's success or lack of thereof in writing and pitching scripts in CA? I realize his departure from ESPN was - at least according to him - somewhat open-ended and that they might seek mutually beneficial opportunities in future after he left the daily radio show but....

I'm actually one of those who preferred Russillo and Kanell as a pairing. Kanell's football background, especially college football, kept the show from becoming consumed by the NBA blob that seems to have consumed all of the ESPN campus. It REALLY isn't that interesting a league or a sport. Hard to see SVP/RR talking about much else.

Kanell was a bit of a true believer...his enthusiasm not yet completely tamped down. The abrupt end of the radio show was a shock to the system - he lamented moving his family north only to lose his gig. But he was a nice foil for the too-cool-for-school Russillo. SVP/RR became something of a circlefest of cynicism.
