Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

Don't be baffled. If you want it, you have to upgrade to a higher tier (and pay more).

And people who remain in the lower tiers don't have to pay for it (but don't expect the prices to be cut for those tiers).

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

Considering the tier it's leaving is an "HD" tier, I think it's obvious they're just names indicating the presence of HD content, not that everything on that tier is HD.

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

My cable company has ESPN Classic on Basic cable, and on a  Basic digital tier with a bunch of other channels that is a mix of programing, what is the logic of having it on basic cable and then having it on a digital tier??

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

Verizon FIOS effectively were rid of SD channels weeks after analog broadcast sunset.
SD has never been in their game plan.

If anything, Verizon will systematically drop all of their SD feeds in the next year or two.
SD is old tech and a waste of bandwidth, upgrade to HD capable or move the Hell along.
The cable ops won't be too far behind.

It's really time to hang up that Curtis-Mathis teevee and get with the times, gramps.

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

ESPN Classic used to be on the basic cable on DIRECTV but they flip flop ESPN-U to the basic and put ESPN Classtic on the sportspack. I like ESPN-U better than Classic. They do have ESPN Deportes on DIRECTV but its on the spanish package (DIRECTV MAS)

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

ESPN Classic is not in HD and so is a lot of that FIOS has so no way they get rid of all SD Channels.

A brand new HD flatscreen will cost less than the Curtis Mathes did back in the day. :D Pretty amazing when you think of all the monetary inflation since then. :p

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

ESPN Classic has become useless over the past few years now that every other sports network and RSN has their own fair share of "classic" sporting events. ESPN Classic lately has become a dumping ground for "30 for 30" reruns.

Re: Verizon FiOS Moving Standard-Def ESPN Classic Channel To "Ultimate HD" Tier

Verizon is also adding beIN Sports on ch. 598HD. It offers "a wide variety of sports programming.............including international soccer". I don't know where that is coming from.
