I lived in Coral Gables in an apartment near downtown. I recall the pick up truck rule and others. Those rules might have been onerous, stepping on your property rights, etc. but Coral Gables had a vibe and look that was unique. It was clear when your crossed over the border into the Coral Gables.
Ironically the 16 unit apartment building I lived in had cockroaches. My apartment was spotless and sparsely furnished, everything clean and orderly. Ah, but they came for the food, out of nowhere. One night I had just made a yummy chicken breast, left it on the plate and went to the bathroom to wash up. Came back two minutes later and there must have been two dozen roaches swarming on it. It was an outrage. The nerve of them.
