Vermont Ham finally gets approval for antennas on his own property

I lived in Coral Gables in an apartment near downtown. I recall the pick up truck rule and others. Those rules might have been onerous, stepping on your property rights, etc. but Coral Gables had a vibe and look that was unique. It was clear when your crossed over the border into the Coral Gables.

Ironically the 16 unit apartment building I lived in had cockroaches. My apartment was spotless and sparsely furnished, everything clean and orderly. Ah, but they came for the food, out of nowhere. One night I had just made a yummy chicken breast, left it on the plate and went to the bathroom to wash up. Came back two minutes later and there must have been two dozen roaches swarming on it. It was an outrage. The nerve of them.

I was just reading up on what K1ZK had to go through, and all the compromises he had to make, in order to get approval to have a hobby. He had to waste over a year of his life on this....most of his stuff sat in boxes, while he ran with a small, temporary setup.
I have to wonder how much money he spent, plus his time. Probably more than the towers, antennas and construction costs combined.

I think I'll see if I can find his e-mail and contact him.

My HOA here in FL started making noises about banning drones, I showed them the case law on the subject and warned them the minute they did not only would I sue the HOA and the individual board members, but I would get the FAA involved as they are the only entity that has control over the national air space which starts at the tops of the blades of grass.

Then there was HOA BS about flags ( most states passed laws preventing HOA's from interfering with the display of the American Flag) and more famously the FCC rules on "OTARDS" which allowed for TV antenna placement on buildings in a HOA
Back in 2000, I decided to get a Sat dish. I had it mounted on the roof. Someone then complained that they could see it. The HOA "rules" stated that "if" a Sat dish could be mounted in my front porch, and still get the signals, that that would have to be done. My porch did face south and that could be done, but, I didn't want to see the dish every time I walked in my gate. But if, your porch faced North, then you could mount your dish wherever you needed to get the signal. I though that was unfair and arbitrary.

So I began reading the FCC material, and recent rulings, etc. I didn't find anything that could overrule the HOA "rules." The HOA Manager called a week later, and I stonewalled him by saying I was still researching the FCC stuff.

And that worked. After 2 weeks of the neighbor coming home, my dish on the roof had just become part of the scenery, and no longer stood out to them. They did not continue to press their complaint, and I got to keep my dish on the roof.
