Verne Troyer Dies: ‘Austin Powers’ Actor Was 49

Actor Verne Troyer, best known for his role as “Mini-me” in the Austin Powers film comedies, has died. He was 49 and no cause of death was revealed.

He reportedly had been hospitalized on life support after being remanded by police earlier this month upon friends reporting that he was inebriated and suicidal, according to TMZ. He was eventually treated for alcohol poisoning.

Troyer was born with achondroplasia dwarfism, a genetic disorder, and was considered one of the smallest people in the world. The 2 foot, 8-inch actor nevertheless carved out an acting career, but struggled with alcoholism, making numerous trips to rehab in his battle with the disease.

In Winston-Salem NC, a major road project is about to begin which will disrupt a lot of people's lives. Several weeks ago a bridge had to be removed as part of that project, during a stage when closing the road entirely isn't normally necessary, but it was in this case. The newspaper article called the bridge removal the "Mini-Me" which was a good time to learn what to do when the road closes for real.
 
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Verne Troyer, the actor best known for his role as "Mini-Me" in the "Austin Powers" movie franchise, died of suicide by alcohol intoxication, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office reported Wednesday.

On April 3, Troyer was taken by paramedics from his North Hollywood home to a hospital in Van Nuys to be treated for reported alcohol intoxication.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital three weeks later on April 21.

An autopsy was performed the next day, and it was later determined that Troyer died from "sequelae of alcohol intoxication," the coroner's office said in a statement, adding that the manner of death was certified as a suicide.

Sequelae is a term defining an action or condition leading to another ailment or, in this case, death.

Troyer's representatives had said last April he'd been struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide.

The actor, who was just 2-foot-8, became a star playing Mini-Me to Mike Myers' Dr. Evil and Austin Powers in the 1999 film "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and its 2002 sequel "Austin Powers in Goldmember."

He also played banker-goblin Griphook in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and appeared in dozens of TV shows, videos and other films in a career spanning more than 20 years.

Troyer was born with achondroplasia, a genetic condition that limited his height.
