Veronica DeKett of WEVV-TV detained on DUI charges

https://www.courierpress.com/story/...ested-accused-driving-while-drunk/2567636001/

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A reporter at a local television news station was arrested in the early morning hours Sunday, accused of driving while drunk.

Veronica DeKett, a noon anchor and senior reporter at WEVV-TV 44 News, has been charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after she was pulled over after a night of drinking.

A police car was following her along Washington Avenue around 12:50 a.m. Sunday when she quickly accelerated as the Garvin Street stoplight turned green, according to an affidavit from the Evansville Police Department. The tires on her vehicle squealed.

She then started driving at more than 50 mph and was weaving from side-to-side, according to the affidavit.

A Hearing on the DUI allegation will be out on November 13th.

She's still on the station website for now.

Here is an Update

ack in November, FTVLive told you that cops had clamped the cuffs on WEVV (Evansville) Reporter Veronica DeKett, charging her with two counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The station parted ways with the Reporter and she now has pleaded guilty to driving drunk and has been sentenced to a year in alcohol probation services.

DeKett, 28, was facing a felony charge because she had a prior conviction in New Jersey, but Vanderburgh Superior Court Judge Robert Pigman entered judgment as a Class A misdemeanor at a hearing Thursday afternoon.

She was sentenced immediately after entering her plea upon the agreement of both parties. Her license was also suspended for 90 days as part of the sentence. It will be reinstated provided she remains in treatment.

DeKett was charged with a Level 6 felony, which would've required a minimum jail sentence of six months and a maximum of two and a half years. She could've been handed up to a $10,000 fine, and her license could've been revoked for two years.
