This is not my usual posts, but I think its really neat when you go to Radio Locator and click on Xmtr location and hit the google satellite map. The amazing thing is you can zoom in on the towers, houses, buildings, whatever. I just went to WOBM-AM you can see the 4 tower array, the guy wires, tower paint, little houses next to the towers, the main building with L-shaped house, satellite dish and the sandy area the towers are on, all in fantastic color and clarity. The WOBM location is so close to a housing development, roads, 195, you name it. I just thought this was a great way to see the Xmtrs on every station you can think of. Note: the better the computer and monitor, the more definition, give it a try.....Now back to my racists posts....
 
when i live in philly, i lived on culp street...the antenna farm was pretty much in my yard...i remember riding my bick down the hills and looking up at the antennas, wondering which ones were for the stations i listened to.
 
For all those who want to see the new JJZ site there is a great pic of the 106.1 tower in Wydmoor where the new antenna will be....nice shot of the old tower.
 
Try CKOC in Hamilton, ONT. 10 tower array there..might even be more..also CJRN in Niagara Falls. 10 towers there..What station has the mosr towers in the US?

How about KFXR’s 12 towers? Unfortunately, the resolution on the current logged orbital mapping picture imaging assimilation of KFXR, is not as clear as some of the others I have seen. Further, it is visually difficult to make out the towers and configuration of CKOC or CJRN as the Canadian Google satellite mapping resolution is extremely poor in general. By contrast, however, the New York City satellite imaging is super sweet. Check out WEPN. It is as if you are almost sitting right on top of the three self-supporters. It’s no ten towers, but still quite sweet. Also, you may want to view WQEW, WWDJ, WLIB WOWO, for a real eagle eye view of some historic antennas. Incidentally, WWDJ and WLIB are currently pumping out considerable power increases out of their classic tower sites.
 
I downloaded google earth and you can get the coordinates from radio-locator and type them into the program and it works a lot easier, you can also rotate the image and change the angle to give it more of a 3d effect. I've looked at several tower sites that way. try it its free from google.
 
I love the Empire site and wqew also, but the wfai salem site is real neat, a very nice 4 tower array, manicured landscape next to a lake. I don't know why they don't get out further with that array and the water ground. On another note, when you try and find the site for 1260 in Newark, its gone, there are a mess of homes and a baseball field, no towers of any kind in the area.
 
i went to find WMMR's stick...but all i see is the building??? i see no antenna what-so-ever
 
not sure ... i could be wrong .. but i think they broadcast from that building top ... they use the height of that building ...
 
Regarding MMR, if you look close you can see the spiral tower on top of Liberty One, they are on that mast, likewise WRNB a bit lower.....
 
It seems when you check out the old WIBG site which now contains 6 towers in an odd array for 990 and 560, 990 uses the 4 straight array and 560 uses the two off to the side and one of 990's towers. I have many pictures of the old WIBG in the 60's both on video and snap shots, the original 5 towers are gone and have been replaced with these newer ones. The old towers had a bow shaped with a slightly larger middle but still used guy wires. Its nice to still see the old WIBG building, these satellite pics are damn accurate.
 
What I find interesting in looking at the WNTP site is that the google provided arrow points, not to the center of the WNTP towers, but directly at the center WFIL tower. So, things are off just a shade. I wonder if it a difference between the NAD27 coordinates used by the FCC versus the NAD83 used by pretty much everyone else?
 
I noticed on some transmitter sites the arrow is right on, either the towers or the transmitter building, but others (like you stated) are slightly off base.
