I recall back in the fall and winter of 1970 and 1971, hearing a "Voice Of America" running "point-to-point" in the 26 to 27 MHz spectrum. Every morning at around 6:45 AM (Eastern, only on Monday through Friday) I heard this loop saying "This is a Voice Of America transmitter, operating point-to-point...........". It was on from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM Eastern. It was heard on all CB radios of the time on 27.025 (Channel 6) easily.
The funny thing about it was that it was only on the air Monday through Friday (October through April, probably due to changes in propagation during summertime). Does anyone recall the reason for this transmission and where it originated. I do recall that it sounded like it was being jammed with a funny sounding whine.
Any takers? Does anyone have any audio from that time?
