W256CD Fultondale aka Alt 99.1 sold to WAY-FM

W256CD "Alt 99.1" will probably give way to well...WAY-FM programming...once the sale is finalized, I would imagine. Wonder if Iheart will scrap their "103.1 The Vulcan" and move the alternative rock programming to 103.1 FM? Can't see Iheart blowing up their "104.1 The Beat" or "105.1 Hallelujah FM" to move ALT there, since both of those stations are doing well.

I really don't see the main WAY FM feed being on this channel because its transmitter is lower than 89.9 on the same tower. I believe there is one market in which WAY airs an alternative feed that is streamed on-line called WAY Now over the air on an extra signal they own in Evansville. Does this mean WAY Now a Christian hits and hip hop channel is coming to Birmingham?

The $64,000 question, at least in my mind, is how many Christian-formatted signals can the Birmingham market support? Granted, many of the existing signals and their formats each have their own unique niches. And, when done right, each has a worthy mission. But has this market has gone beyond the point of supersaturation?

Bringing Way Now to FM makes sense. Way Media also operates Christian rock Way Loud, which was formally known as Power FM. Power FM broadcasted on an FM signal in Dallas until they sold their signal to Way Media. Way Media kept the old format online. It would be nice to see them return to FM, but I think Way Now would be more likely.

I was wondering about this too since it seems almost entirely redundant; I wasn't aware Way-FM had other online-only formats so that at least is something they can offer up in addition to their normal network. The next question is how it'd be fed. A commercial band translator can't be fed from out of market, can it? I can never remember all the translator rules & regs. I guess that WBHJ-HD3 could be moved to 99.1 and then an out of market OTA signal could feed 89.9 something else?

As far as over saturation goes, I do also wonder how the proliferation of donation-supported products has affected Crawford's commercial Christian stations.
