W276AV-FM 103.1 MHz now with WQXR sold

It wouldn't surprise me to see WQXR pop up on the 103.1 translator again. That's certainly an area that they would want to cover, with the many affluent residents there who would tune in to WQXR.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see WQXR rebroadcast on either 96.7 or 103.9 or a deal being made for them to get WFAF 106.3, to increase their Westchester coverage.

They could also pop up on WNYC's translator on 93.5 in Smithtown, LI, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them possibly make a deal for the WLIX network of translators on LI.

Question - is the 103.1 translator in Ft. Lee, NJ still operational? If so, who is using it?

Thanks

Bruce

That station is broadcasting "The Bridge fm" it is a christan music station from Freehold nj. They have a horrible signal since jukebox radio went off the air, maybe they will air classical too when the switch happends.

I don't have access to the contract, but I imagine the three translaters went with the main frequency to WCAA. I'm sure provisions were made for them in some way, so that the New York Times is no longer responsible for them.

The translators in CT (Greenwich and Stamford) apparently haven't been rebroadcasting WQXR for some time now. The one in Stamford is supposedly rebroadcasting WRXP instead. Not sure about the one in Greenwich. It would make sense though to put WQXR back on those translators once the move to 105.9 takes place.

As for the 103.1 translator in Fort Lee...it was posted either here or on the dentist board once that when it was still Jukebox Radio, the owner of the station..."cheated" and sent out a much stronger signal than legally allowed towards Manhattan and the boroughs. This does make sense...back then I was able to receive 103.1 almost like a local station in many parts of Northern Queens, but since Jukebox went off the air, 103.1 is barely receivable at all.

In any case, I don't think it would make sense to put WQXR on that particular translator, which is directly across from Manhattan and where 105.9 still has a strong signal.

I could see either WNYC or WAMC trying to pick up WFAF in Mt. Kisco. That station is not viable as a stand-alone. I don't know what Cumulus plans to do with it if they end up moving 103.9 down to the Bronx.

I live in Old Greenwich. I keep forgetting to check both 103.1's sorry guys. Last check stamford one was still doing the WRXP in horrible quality deal going through Greenwich since the greenwich one is off hence why I was suggestng a way that W276AV-FM can become a LP-FM or an HD-2 Translator like for example what they do in Keene NH or Atlanta Georgia. I will give you any updates if anything has changed when I next check
