WABC Evening News’ Is Latest Addition To Red Apple Talker’s Lineup.

Red Apple Media talk WABC New York (770) continues its revamp of afternoons, with the debut of “WABC Evening News,” hosted by owner John Catsimatidis and journalist Lidia Curanaj. Also appearing on the soon-to-be-launched program will be former Rep. Pete King (R-NY), who will serve as a guest co-host. Former New York Governor David Paterson will also appear on the show, which is expected to debut in the next couple of weeks, Newsday reports.

The 4-6pm show will replace the current one-hour programs hosted by Curanaj and Catsimatidis that debuted after the move of the Westwood One-syndicated “The Ben Shapiro Show” from WABC to Salem Media Group crosstown talk “970 The Answer” WNYM. Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani continues from 3-4pm.

WABC must be careful with this one. If Lidia promotes false information, it would put WABC in direct violation of FCC Rules.

This is also why stations that are not co-owned might want to think twice about sharing call letters. WABC Channel 7 might raise some eyebrows at that. Wasn't there a recent flap in Pittsburgh where KDKA-TV took heat for some of the antics of a (separately owned) KDKA (AM) host?

I've listened to Lidia Curanaj, and I think "Evening News" is a misnomer. She does a talk show.
Here in Atlanta, Erick Erickson's 4-6PM slot on WSB is called "Atlanta's Evening News." It arguably has more news content than Lidia Curanaj's WABC hour but is still basically an opinion show.

I'll add, however, that Lidia's content includes the more conspiratorial talking points while Erick's does not.

Yes I remember CBS O&O KDKA had to put out a disclaimer on one of their articles that KDKA-AM is now an Entercom owned station after that talk host in question was fired over a rant.

WABC Evening News if one is looking in a search it will go directly to the Disney owned WABC7 Eyewitness News in a search results section. Not so much the Red Apple one though.
