Wanna work for a pirate station? 99.3 in Newark posts a job opening

nd2023

This pirate station actually posted a job opening on airtalents.com

http://www.airtalents.com/job/2200

The pirate's website is http://www.99thejoynt.com/index.html

This is the worst way to get someone to "work" at the pirate station. I like how the salary is "N/A", which means it's probably zero. If anyone legitimately applies for this job, they should not work in radio. They posted their address so the FCC will have no trouble finding the pirate. I personally have not heard this pirate station yet, but I'll check for signs of life on 99.3 next time I'm near Newark. Right now, I am going to judge it as a part 15 station, but what part 15 station would actually hire DJs? It's like hiring a DJ to be on the air on your iPod transmitter.
Even though many of us could care less about WBAI, this pirate should be shut down. Star 99.1 would also have something to complain about (I've heard a pirate on 99.1 too).
This just adds to the pirate stations that infest Newark.

These frequencies in Newark have a pirate station that I've heard with my own ears (some frequencies have multiple pirates). Bold frequencies are strong signals that go 25+ miles
87.5 87.7(why this frequency) 87.9 88.7 89.1 90.1 90.3 91.9 93.5 94.3 95.1 95.9 96.1 96.5 96.7 96.9 97.5 99.1 99.3(unconfirmed) 99.9 100.7 101.5 102.3 102.5 103.1 103.9 104.7 105.7 106.3 107.1 107.9
If the FCC fined each pirate $10,000, they would make millions in one day.

I wish Binghamton, NY had this kind of entertainment. Instead, we have independent radio owners owning 3 or 4 transmitters simulcasting the same broadcast WITHIN the same area. Check out the Binghamton board to see what I mean.

Nowhere on any of their websites does it say they are on the air on
any frequency. Does anyone have any proof that this is a pirate station?
Legitimate webcasters are licensed by ASCAP and BMI.

I emailed them about wanting to report them to the FCC and this is their unedited reply:

we don't pirate so feel free to do that they have us on file , would you like the hours of operation.
because unfortunately to your ignorant belief we don't operate illegally.
Thanks

Regardless of their legitimacy, I'm glad that the next generation of broadcasters have an appreciation for proper english spelling.

Almost reminds me of "All of your bases are belong to us". ;D

I have confirmed that there is no pirate station on 99.3 in the Newark area on Saturday (at least along the Turnpike and along the train line)

I almost forgot that pirate stations don't pay any royalties for what they air.

Maybe they are using one of those Radio Shack "wireless microphones" they used to sell back in the 70's? They were legal, and got out for a few city blocks! ;D Only problem, is that they only tuned between 88 and 92, so 99.3 would be out of the question.

Methinks they dost protest too much. Saying you're legal doesn't make you legal. If 99.3 is a licensed LPFM, where is the legal ID (which I have yet to hear.) Clearly, they are a pirate fleecing local clubs and business for all the ad dollars they can get until they get shutdown. The sad thing is that they seem to be at no loss for advertisers or listeners.

I do believe that we need more real, community oriented LPFMs..but let operators follow the same proceedure we all have to follow to get licensed and then meet technical standards to not cause interference.

At one time a pirate was operating from the old WJDM studios in Elizabeth. A tip phoned to the FCC by a local ham radio operator who noticed the FM antenna on the roof and took signal strength measurements brough a raid and shut down within a week..it can be done.

That was then. This is now.
The FCC knows EXACTLY where the pirate stations are, as they have mailed NALs out and visited the stations without shutting them down. Nothing is happening to the pirates.

As of yesterday, 99.3 The Joynt is officially on the air in Newark. Its signal can be heard from the airport up to about exit 15X on the Turnpike. It's right below WBAI and reception of WBAI is now bad in downtown Newark.
