Was anyone listening to WILK this morning?

I agree that "The Watcher" isn't Lynn.

As to Vopper, I always thought that getting callers was so difficult in NEPA talk radio that he threw out any and every topic, especially if it had a negative spin. The ones that generated calls, he ran with. If animal husbandry got the big response, he would have been known as the "4 H" guy, not the " Anti-arena" guy. Probably no civic oriented project in NEPA history was as successful as the Arena was. he certainly called that one wrong.

I honest to God don't know who this guy is. What I do feel comfortable saying is that he has an agenda, and his agenda is the wild card. Should he be after what I think he is, he is sitting back and loving every post made about him.

If he's just some "every man" as he claims, I'd say he's simply POed because there isn't enough right-wing talk on local radio nowadays. I speak with Kevin occasionally, let me say what he says.

I AM a "nobody". I have no background in radio or journalism unless you count my college newspaper and low-power FM radio which I contributed to for a short time about 40 years ago. If you read my posts you'll find out that my educational background is science, NOT journalism. As I've said elsewhere I stumbled on this board while googling for places to obtain information for my BLOG. I had no idea who it was peopled by and frankly I have no clue who any of you are IRL nor do I care. To me you are what you post. I have no great need to delve into your private or professional lives or place a name with your ID's.

I have PLAINLY stated my "agenda" which is to hopefully get both sides of a news story examined so that people can have an intelligent discussion pro and con. I'd also like to see news reported more comprehensively and as "real" news with tons less descriptive adjectives (OK - you have me there - I double majored in English!), not as entertainment and yes masterg, I think there needs to be a LOCAL conservative host on WILK because Limbaugh and Savage et al are NATIONAL, three of four local hosts are screamingly liberal thus presenting only "facts" that support their views and Sue Henry as a "conservative" is pure verbal valium!

Now folks - please go back and reread the above SLOWLY. That's it in a nutshell. No hidden anything. If you can't accept it at face value then perhaps you need to go and find out who really killed JFK and Princess Diana! ::)

Oh and LFC - I agree! He is the only game in town in that time slot and WILK is the only "Talk Radio" in town which, to me, contributes mightily to his success.
 
Wait! Wait! Wait! (screeching tires sfx) Isn't it ironic that "the watcher" is wanting a fair and balanced view on radio, yet won't accept our opposing views on Kevin Lynn or most of the market for that matter?

The watcher claims Kevin will not accept a caller's view.
The watcher will not accept that certain posters accept Kevin Lynn as just good radio.

Just as Lynn may keep pushing his "agenda" so is the watcher (even though he claims he doesn't have one).

We, as well as the talk radio audience, will keep reading/listening to see what's next.

On another topic. I never listened to Vopper, but I feel that LA Tarone in Hazleton had MORE of an influence against the arena than anyone. The marriage/division card of W-B/Hazleton swung the vote more than anything. (eg "Why should I pay for something in W-B?"). Isn't Hazleton trying to build it's own amphitheater? To the world 20 miles is nothing. To NEPA 20 miles is worlds apart.

Don't be silly wanderlust! Of COURSE I accept your opposing views. I also disagree with them but you'll notice I'm DISCUSSING them with you all in a civil manner which is what my point is. What do you expect me to do, get knocked off my horse by a bolt of lightning? Roll over on my back offer my neck? ;D

Maybe you'll change my mind, maybe I'll change yours, but have I called you any names? Have I said your views are stupid or demeaned you in any way al la Kevin? Nope - I've REFUTED your views and stated mine while still respecting you and them and THAT my friend to me is the name of the game!

WILK isn't C-SPAN. It's entertainment. Nothing more. It is more heat than light. It's not designed for intelligent discussion. It's to get people riled up, listening, and talking.

But it COULD combine both, be both and do both couldn't it? And wouldn't it better serve the area and be a better station if it did?

If it did both it would probably have the ratings of cspan or npr. The scary thing there are people in Congress who would like to curb the free market and re-introduce the fairness doctorine. Talk radio is what it is, entertainment for profit. It is a fact that two opposites on the national stage, Limbaugh and Stern are well aware of, neither takes themselves as serious as the locals Lynn and Corbett. Talk radio is not, nor would I personally want it to be a forum for change. That comes through our educational institutionas and hopefully the election process.

If you want to see it done differently, invest the money, take the risk, buy a station and start your own programing. Which in what radio has become is next to impossible.

Sorry watcher, I guess you can send private messages on this board. Never did it before so I was unaware. My bad.

But may I suggest you set up an email link on your blog, it may encourage people to write to you with info they may not necessarily want to post or different from a topic you have posted about.

Woo, that shite's over where I work. Station gets the money, sales gets the commission and talent doesn't get paid? "Ooh, sorry, can't make it. I'm filing my teeth that night." If that's still going on where YOU are, it's your own fault.

Of course, free drinks can help soften that stance some.
