"WBCN Free Form Rock" on WZLX 100.7 HD3 now stereo!

As of yesterday, Sam Kopper's "WBCN Free Form Rock" on WZLX 100.7 HD3 began broadcasting in stereo!

Most HD2's are stereo, but I've never heard a stereo HD3 before. I asked this on the HD Radio forum, but thought I'd also see if anyone here knows. Are there any other stereo HD3's on the air anywhere, or is "WBCN Free Form Rock" the pioneer?

Also, the stereo indicator being lit on your HD radio when tuned to an HD subchannel doesn't necessarily mean that the subchannel is broadcasting in stereo. In many models, it stays on when tuned to HD subchannels if the parent analog station is broadcasting in stereo regardless of whether the subchannel is.
 
O always hard it on internet CBS "radio.com" and I think it always sounds stereo. CBS Is getting some radio stations on surround sound, could be that?

"WBCN Free Form Rock" has always been in stereo online on the internet, but not on the radio until yesterday. Very few on-air HD3 radio broadcasts have been in stereo yet. "WBCN Free Form Rock" on 100.7 HD3 is the first HD3 signal in stereo in the Boston area, and as far as I know, it's one of only a few HD3 channels in stereo in the whole country so far.
 
That means the already small bitrate is now being squeezed even more. I'd rather have mono with less coding artifacts than stereo that sounds like every cymbal hit is breaking glass.

It actually doesn't sound that bad. It sounds like their EQ is not pushing the high end so much, so there isn't much artifact distortion. You may want to turn up the treble to get a little more high end compared to your HD1 or HD2 station settings.

I think the processing Sam is using sounds great.
 
I think they pull it off by having a high end to 7.5 or 10 kHz not 15 kHz. for 24kbps, they do get quite bit considering. Credit to Sam and HHH. Being more than 25 miles from downtown Boston ZLX's HD goes in and out. Be nice if more stations would go to -10 or-14 instead of -20 digital power levels
