WBLS #1 for Second Month - Lite, CBS-FM and WSKQ Tied for #2

Not only is Urban Adult WBLS #1 this month, but it's for the 2nd month in a row. And it has a sizable lead over the #2 stations in a three-way tie: Lite, WCBS-FM and WSKQ.

Just departed Alternative Rock WNYL finished tied for #21. And Classic Hip Hop WXBK finished at #18. I really think WXBK should have flipped to an All-News WCBS Simulcast on the same day as WNYL/WINS-FM. For the second month in a row, All-News WCBS beat All-News WINS, yet Audacy only gave WINS a simulcast. (OK, WCBS's strong ratings, #11, are thanks to the Mets great season, but a win is a win.)

Thanks to the Yankees great season, WFAN-AM-FM finished at #8. And WXBK's Country subchannel, 94.7-HD2, once again shows in the ratings. Very few HD stations ever do, with no FM translator.

The .3 rating seems quite respectable for an HD subchannel in this market. It will be interesting to see the ratings in the coming months for the new Alt 92.3 HD2.
I think the sister Audacy stations should carry promos for these two HD stations. One can't expect very many Country and Alt fans to be aware of their existence. And the HD radio displays should show the names of the two HD2 stations, rather than those of the HD1 signals.

If this was a good idea, they would have done it. I don't think 880 will ever end up on FM. 1010 WINS has been the stronger brand, and it's obvious from the state of the two stations.

I don't understand the people on this forum who keep rooting for the big radio corps to keep deleting the entertainment choices from an already gutted FM radio dial in the nation's biggest market.

And an FM adds coverage to WINS, which has a weak signal in many of the Metro Survey Area NJ counties.

I agree. One can get news on their phone or on tv. Radio is killing itself off without creating a way to survive in the future. HD should have taken off by now. But without early government mandate to roll it out like they did with FM in the 70s they're screwed.

If WBLS is #1 then isn't that reason to keep the block and just tweak the sound a bit?
I think the block would be twice as strong as it is if it had a real Empire signal.
They sometimes have sets of songs which would be top 3 in the money demos if the signal was equal.
They own wmas, can't they work out a monetary arrangement with 94.3 The Shart?

That would be logical. Except WBLS keeps increasing its ratings, all the while The Block stays mired near the bottom. You'd think having a Classic Hip Hop station might dilute some of WBLS's strength. But instead, WBLS just had one of its best ratings results in years, nearly a point and a half ahead of Lite, CBS-FM and WSKQ.

And yes, I'm sympathetic to those who say, why would we want to keep eliminating FM music stations for AM spoken word simulcasts? In the last few years, 101.9 is no longer a music station and 95.5 is no longer a commercial music station. It's still playing music but as a non-commercial Christian AC. Now 92.3 is All-News.

But as the AM dial dies, this is probably inevitable. Spoken word formats might be expensive but they also carry more commercials. WINS, WFAN and WCBS finished 8th, 9th and 10th on the BIA list of station billing. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You don't keep a station that's 100th on the list, WXBK, and sacrifice a station that's 10th on that list, WCBS.

I don't understand the people who continually criticize those same companies when they take a chance on alternative. They didn't have to launch WNYL. But once they did, it seemed like every day, there was nothing but bashing song choice or the people on the air. This music's too old, this music's too pop, this host talks too much, and on and one. At some point, it's easier to just shut it down.

Meanwhile, the folks at Q104 relish the fact that they are the only rock station in town. I saw where Carol Miller was just inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, joining the station's morning host Jim Kerr. Carol has been on the radio in NY for almost 50 years!

Nope. There are frequency protections in nearby markets (i.e. New Haven and Trenton), and the allotment on Long Island would still be available, not deleted outright.
