WBZ-AM 1030 News on WHJJ-AM 920

I always thought this was odd too. Why run it on Sunday morning? Why not wait till early evening when we usually hear WBZ switch to talk? But I guess Edelman wants the show to run on Sunday morning, when it also runs on 880 WCBS New York.

However, Edelman says he will retire in a few months. So my guess is, WBZ's all-news format will return to that time slot.

If you compare it to other stations, you'll see it's fairly typical. Sundays is when music stations run their syndicated countdown shows in place of their usual daily shows. The Edelman show is carried on a lot of news stations, including WCBS in NYC.

WBZ RADIO had its own reporters covering the storm in the Westerly, RI and Worcester and Cape Cod areas, and they still have an arrangement whereby they use news reports and even weather briefs from WBZ-TV. Other than WBZ and WRKO, what other AM stations in Boston have any listeners to speak of? As for FM stations: 96.9 FM Talk died in early 2013.

Isn't WBZ-TV, and WBZ(AM) no longer have an alliance, since its sale to Audacy, and then being divested to iHeartMedia? Ditto with WBZ-FM to Beasley also?

Someone backing me up! There you go. Why interrupt two hours of all-news programming for this when you can air it later at night to keep an all-news block during the day.

iHeart owns WBZ-AM; Beasley owns WBZ-FM; CBS owns WBZ-TV. HOWEVER, nothings prevents WBZ Newsradio 1030 from having a working arrangement with WBZ-TV. True, nothing prevents WBZ 1030 from having an arrangement with Channels 5, 7, or 25, but to me that would seem awkward. I know in other markets the formerly CBS all-news stations made arrangements with other TV stations when they split with their CBS TV partner, but thankfully that has not happened in Boston. The WBZ brand is unique in that it is a venerable and New England institution, rightfully proud of its heritage.
 
The other TV news stations in Boston, WCVB, WHDH, WBTS and WFXT should have radio partnerships in emergency situations only. There are enough FM stations in Boston that could accomplish this.

As a matter of fact, you're right! I forgot that my car radio has terrible AM reception, and I typically listen to WBZ on WXKS-FM-HD2 (and WRKO on WZLX-HD2). I don't know why the AM reception is so bad. I think VW may try to use the satellite antenna for AM radio too. But the AM band is very staticy...almost sounds like bad short-wave reception with all the pops, clicks, and beeps. I had that trouble in my previous car too, but only when the cable TV lines were on my side of the road. Now the AM reception is so bad I don't even think to turn it on.

Well WXKS-HD2's EAS goes when ever the WXKS-FM's does and that unit wouldn't know what was going on on the HD2 at the same time. It just interrupts and gets the tones out so it's legal. So that is why you heard a train wreck.

You're right. He has nothing to say about what they do at any other time and on any other day.

But if they want his money, they have to air it at that time. Other sponsors also get to pick when their ads run.
 
Recently (I forget exactly when) I called WBZ on a Sunday evening asking about the 60 Minutes audio track they pre-empted for (as they explained to me) staying on their regular all news format.

Then they rehashed the same new stories, same audio and cuts, they aired a few hours previous.

Does anyone know if any of iHeart's premium properties, e.g., KFI (LA), WLW (Cincinnati), WHO (DesMoines), WOAI (San Antonio), actually run LIVE AND LOCAL 24/7? We know that Talk 1200, WRKO, and WBZ are not in that stable. Heh, and we won't even mention smaller- market properties like WHJJ.

I think WLW was the last of their stations to run 24/7 live & local. But that changed during the pandemic. They aired the long running overnight trucking show hosted by the son of the show's original host. But they currently run Red Eye Radio from 1AM to 5AM. All of the other iHeart "premium" stations (including WOR NYC) run Coast To Coast AM.

WOR was a truly great radio station in its bygone days, whether under RKO-General or the Buckley family.
