WBZ-TV is now known as WBZ on CBS News Boston

Think stations dumping their channel numbers are doing so since the actual RF channel matches their original number.

I want to see what CBS does with their legacy Channel 2's in NYC and Chicago

What the younger suits in New York don't understand is viewers grew up with Channels 4,5 and 7 and that was passed on for generations in Boston.

Channel 4 built its brand by BEING CHANNEL 4

Does this explain the new on-screen bug I saw during Jeopardy?

Before

After

It was rather jarring to see 4 Jeopardy episodes in a row with the usual “CBS 4” logo then see something completely different for Friday’s episode. Why would a well-known TV station change their on-screen bug? And why would they do it on a Friday rather than on a Monday?

Lastly, I find that graphic really distracting. Is there a reason why WBZ has to show their call letters during Jeopardy?

The younger suits realize that the younger consumers of television news don't give a stinking crap about the "legacy" of a number.
True and TV's made today are not on channel numbers but on Apps.

In this case it's all about CW and CBS affiliates owned by Paramount promoting the CBS News and Paramount+ apps. It's just like KPIX/KBCW, KCAL/KCBS, KCNC and WWJ/WKBD removing channel numbers all because they are emphasizing the CBS News app part.

We're 4 is probably the best TV imaging campaign ever. Truly captured life in New England at that time. I still hear that song in my head sometimes. 🙂

But even without the 4, WBZ is still a very strong brand locally. I'm glad CBS was wise enough to keep WBZ in the new branding and not just a generic "CBS News Boston" like in other markets.

What on earth did Channel 4 digitally edit out of this segment???????????

Good question My first guess was that it was a screen or screens showing content from another network that might sic its legal eagles on CBS if that content were to appear on an affiliate's newscast, although the multi-screen display shown clearly elsewhere in the video had two MLB games and an NHL game on it, and CBS doesn't have rights to either league. So it's mystery to me. My only other guess was that it was a video advertisement (in-house?) for cigarettes or marijuana or some other product that might get WBZ in trouble.
