"WCAP WORKS FOR ME" TESTIMONIAL FROM OUT-OF-BUSINESS MERCHANT!

WCAP has been running a merchant-voiced promo recently that touts the fact that advertising on WCAP has been great for his business, and recommending it for others.

There is a slight problem, however...

The business, a restaurant in Billerica called Peppercorn's, closed almost a month ago. The WCAP ad rep who services this (former) client should have been aware of this and stopped such a promo from continuing to run.

The promo invites the listener to stop by the restaurant and try it out. It is not that different from a regular ad in it's content, except for the part which states that WCAP is responsible for it's success. WCAP will seem rather foolish to anybody who takes the advice and decides to visit the advertiser.

Quite right, and a reasonable expectation except:
Never in more than 30 years have I ever met a radio sales rep who cares enough about the on-air sound to worry about something as "minor" as this.

And what exactly did 980 do to you sir?

Nothing. I'm simply pointing out a WCAP faux pas.

I'm sure that it will be taken care of sir. Thank you for pointing that out.

Why do I feel that you work at WCAP?

You have no idea where I work. And if I did, who cares?

Your defensive attitude about this matter is all telling.

And your point is what?

Geeeeez.... Surfin Bird just pointed out something that's radio-humorous; something similar to what most of the rest of us point out about other stations.... and people are jumping all over him. Lighten up, guys.

Let us assume that the state in question did something to the OP.

The essence is this: Not only did nobody in the building know they were out of business, they were using to promote how buying the station make people look successful.

He has made them look stupid. Even a little revenge can be a good thing.

+1

I didn't point it out...Early Byrd was the culprit

There IS a Peppercorns restaurant in Worcester but their website http://www.epeppercorns.com/ doesn't mention anything about a location in Billerica so apparently one is not related to the other. HOWEVER, according to WCAP's website, their signal reaches Worcester so it's POSSIBLE that someone listening to WCAP in Worcester could think the commercial is about Peppercorns in Worcester even though the commercial might actually say Billerica. Free advertising for the guy in Worcester. Always a silver lining. The commercial can stay on the air. ;D
