WCAU-FM aircheck from the final day of the top-40 format

It was there, why would the user take it down? What's the problem? I just posted the link so everyone can here the audio. Is it illegal to post you tube links on the radio boards?

I think I have the actual transition at 5pm. I was on & I believe I went from George Michael to Top of Hour ID into Little Richard. Hmm... fill in THAT blank. I actually have a ton of airchecks from Philly radio. I've transferred some to CD, but I've never posted any.

Hey Bill,
Great to hear from you. Man, do we miss what you guys used to do on 'CAU-FM. What are you doing these days?

I work for Dial-Global...program director for their Hot AC 24/7 digital formats in Los Angeles. I also teach a few broadcasting classes at a school on the Universal lot and do some work at Westlake recording studio and for the independent directors association.

Bill;
When did the airstaff at 98 learn that the station was going oldies? How long did you stay at
'OGL after the format flip? I remember listening to your show that afternoon. I just turned on the radio and you were playing a Rolling Stones song and said "Oldies 98." I thought you were kidding because WCAU had been slipping in older tracks between the hits for awhile. After a commercial, you came back with an "Oldies 98" jingle and played "Shake, Rattle, and Roll." It was a shock.

Bill, thanks for posting here. Would it be possible that you can upload unscoped audio of 98's last day as a top-40 station from 1987 here?

reelradio.com has some airchecks from when q102 had the 98 reunion, and it does include the end (an aircheck of an aircheck) The site is nolonger free, but I think I saved it, and can maybe upload the very end if I can find it.

On behalf of all radio fans in Philadelphia, we'd be forever in your debt if you can share some of the memories from your CD collection with us. :D

Neat... tell Stephanie Miller I said hello... ;D

I'm a HUGE Stephanie Miller fan...I run into her once in a while...she works out of CC in Burbank, I work out of DG, Valencia/Santa Clarita (difference is about 20 miles). I've transferred/labeled a lot of airchecks from various Philly stations (and not just me)...I did work at 'CAU/OGL, Eagle, Q102 before heading up I-95 to the "northern cities"...a lot of 80's & 90's checks from everywhere. My idea would be to just give them to someone & have them post a few good ones on an easily navigated site. I know there's some great promos, jingles and station composites that I'd saved too.

BTW...I learned that WCAU was going oldies from a record promo person, backstage at a Fleetwood Mac concert at the Spectrum. About a week before. For the first hour or two after the transition, the oldies songs were still being "carted up" and Rich Hawkins handed them to me to play a few songs at a time. We really were a team there. Ted Kelly & I speak all the time and get together on his west coast visits and Kalina, Hawkins, Billy Burke & Terry Young, we all e-mail each other from time to time. Of course, I'm back there a few times a year & still have friends at various stations there.

Hi Bill. I just want you to know that I enjoyed your shows during your stay at 98 and also Eagle 106. I do have a couple of questions.

1). Didn't you work at the old Wizzard 100?
2). Was the last song on WCAU "Another one bites the dust"?

Also, a few years back, my wife met Christy Springfield at a wedding of a mutual friend. Very nice person and excellent DJ. Her real name is Donna but I forget her last name. She was at OGL until I beleive 2004 (21 years at that station) and now works PT at xtu.

Take care

1)Yes...WIZZARD 100...dance music in Philly...go figure!

2)I really have to hear the air-check, but obviously that Queen song would be a logical choice...but that george michael song was in there somewhere.

3)Christy was always a sweetheart...you can imagine the crap she had to put up with from the rest of the all male staff. We also worked together a lot at the Jersey Shore doing "Dancin' on Air". She's doing Hot Country?...I did that format...nights in Boston and I voicetrak a daily Hot Country show at Dial-Global for affiliates across the country right now (along with programming Hot AC).

Bill, if I recall correctly, she is also involved with "Radio Philly Style", doing "True Oldies" for Charlie Bennett's website.

One aircheck that I heard does end the Hot Hits reign with the aforementioned Queen song.

It would be nice to hear you recall some of your Dancin' On Air/WCAU-FM/Eagle 106/Q102/Wizzard 100 days on a future "Radio Racket" show. I am sure the hosts would love to talk to you, especially about Hot Hits 98.

Glad to see you're doing well out there in Cali. The best for the future...

And Julius, of course. ;)

Hey Bill, I have a question for you......did you feel weeks in advanced that 'CAU was starting to unravel or decline to a format change after Billy Burke was let go, and Terry was moved to mornings and then left himself. I was told Billy was let go for a guy named Bobby Sharpe because they were planning to reach more of an adult audience.
