WCBS-AM 880 and WABC 770 in Atlanta, GA

I live in the Metro-Atlanta area. To be more specific, the northern burbs at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I have no problem listening in the night to WCBS nor WABC, tho ABC comes in/out most times. But CBS, loud and clear as good as any locals.

Driving around the city too, no problem picking up CBS (not ABC) in the car...

Being a transplanted New Yorker (since 1973), it is nice to hear.
;D

Admit it: you've also checked into 66 WFAN to catch up on those division rival New York Mets, haven't you? ::)

WCBS comes in across the south as long as you are nowhere near a power line. I love to listen to them at night driving across I-20 back in the day. Today, I just plug in my smartphone.

Actually..NO!

Too accumulated to the deep south...tho, it seems the only Braves game I go to are the Mets..and in the rare chance of inter-league with the Yanks
;D

I get WCBS much clearer than I do most other local AMs here in Port St. Lucie, Fla. In fact, WCBS is so clear it often seems as if I am right near the transmitter. WFAN's signal, in the car, always gets weakened by headlights -- but once the lights go off, it's as clear, too -- substantially better than WQAM, WMEN or WAXY. Even though I can still listen to all these stations with TuneIn -- I must admit it's still a thrill to hear them on the AM band from more than 1,000 miles away.

Agree...much better on a radio than on-line. I listen to WCBS at night, laying in bed, listening to the news. I enjoyed it during the recent storms....almost felt a part of it, closer to 'home'. I enjoy the traffic reports and hearing, 'Cross-Island Parkway', 'Van Wyck' etc., roads I spent too much time on, but seems enjoyable now

Reminds me as a kid, in bed, living in NY and listening to WLS (Chicago). Always enjoyed picking up 'far-aways'

On that 'touch of home' .....

Last vacation we took was to The Villages in Florida, between Ocala and Leesburg. Years ago I had built a loop antenna there and stowed it in the Folks' garage. So I'm out there one evening on a lawn chair with a drink, listening to KYW 1060. And I hear, 'You come all the way to Florida and set this all up just to hear THAT?'
She is from Philadelphia.
Most girls cannot comprehend road maps or DX. Pity.

Thx for the memories, HippieGuy. I lived two blocks away from the Van WYKE for 17 years myself. Shea Stdium was a 15 minute bike ride with a good supporting south wind. Yankee Stadium was like 152 subway stops away from us -- too far.

Looking for a girl who actually has a genuine interest in radio has been skirting at best.

I have often thought it is why radio people generally don't stay married long.

I concur. I also live in the northern 'burbs of Atlanta and both of those NY frequencies come in quiet well. It is great to pick up the top of the hour news.

Also, 860 Montreal, a French speaking station, comes in quite nicely.

Generally, equal stations have better skywaves as we go up the dial.
Receiver sensitivity may also improve.
When I was a child, general practice was to peak the antenna capacitor at 1400...but I knew better!

I haven't seen an antenna capacitor in a radio in years. Why is that?

Just for the record, the French station on 860 is CJBC Toronto. But it's part of the Radio-Canada network, so when they aren't doing local inserts, it is mostly programming from Montreal.

I also found that I was able to hear WBBR 1130 NYC clearly at night while in Jacksonville and St. Augustine on a recent vacation, as well as 660, 770 and 880 from NYC.
