WCBS-FM GOES ALL CHRISTMAS MUSIC MON. NITE 11/17/08 @ 7PM

I do like a lot of the Xmas music but its too soon. Shouldn't it wait until at least Thanksgiving Day? What happened to the upbeat songs? In the first 1/2 hour they all seemed to be very slow. I guess its off to the KRTH stream until 12/26. I like the way they integrate the holiday songs into the regular mix.

It will be XMAS on THE BREEZE and 'plj before you know it!!!! Being an Orthodox Jew,I have a supply of music on cassettes taped off the radio----country,oldies,ac,Israeli/jewish,classical and even polka!!!!!

Is PLJ really going all Christmas? I loved the mix they had the year they went all christmas. I must say CBS's mix is sounding great as well.

Leave it to CBS-FM to actually make a GOOD Christmas station. Seriously, that "recently played" list maybe the best Xmas list I've ever seen from one of the 24/7 stations. I would actually listen to that! Not for a couple weeks, mind you, but it's a good list. (Except for "New Shoes," of course. Blech.)

I still would have preferred they played at least half normal music, but what can you do...

Seems to be the case that CBS-FM stopped the Christmas music at midnight when Ron Parker signed off... now it's back to the regular classic hits.

Maybe just testing the waters.. or trying to get Lite to flip in a bait and switch?

Similarly last year when CBS Chicago's WCKG (now WCFS) was dropping FREE FM and flipping, they planted a story of it going all-Christmas which tempted WLIT (Lite FM) to flip to Christmas early so WCKG could flip to Fresh and have the AC format to itself for a month or so. Let me take off this tin foil hat here...

...anyway, I doubt it was a bait move (since there's no format change to be done)... maybe to just test the water to see how us radio board geeks might react ;D

Probably a false start like Classic Hits KOOL here in Phoenix. The Christmas music began at 5pm Friday, the day of Halloween! However, the music suddenly ended at some random time in the 8am hour of the next Monday morning (I'm sure the intent was to keep it going). All programming was back to normal, until the all-Christmas started up again 5pm, Friday Nov. 7, and still going strong.

Can't say that I am a fan of 24/7 Christmas music. Here in LA, our leading AC station, KOST, is the one that goes Xmas. It hasn't so far but it must be getting pretty close. I sure hope our Oldies/Classic Hits station, KRTH, does not go Xmas. They seem to be firing on all cylinders with their regular format and I would hate for them to mess it up with all Xmas music. As it is, KRTH usually adds a fair amount of holiday music as the day draws nearer but stops short of 24/7 until Christmas Day itself.

Based on how "holiday-happy" CBS has been in most of their markets - Boston, Phoenix, Denver, and NewYork and Philly really soon - I wouldn't be surprised if K-EARTH was Christmas 24/7 within a week or so.

Don't you know? There are no more upbeat songs in radio. Those died out sometime around 2003 :)....Any up beat song that does make it through the filters tends to get about a week of air play and then dies out quietly :).

As for Christmas songs, I agree, it's just too early. I'm sick of Christmas by the time it does come, after being barraged by songs and adds since October. I'm surprised Christmas Burnout doesn't happen earlier and more often these days..It's just lost the special holiday feeling it used to have..

How DARE you bash up a happy feel good song like that ;o)... Heh, that song was good and sentimental once....after more than one play it becomes wretchedly sappy and you start to wish Dominic the Donkey was playing 24/7 instead of that one airing of Christmas Shoes, or whatever it's called ;). Unless it's all based off a true story, and then I come off like a heel for saying that :).

It seems that CBS-FM is only going to be doing Christmas tunes every night from 7pm-midnight. On the main page at wcbsfm.com, one of the rotating banners shows "Holiday Nights with Ron Parker" from 7-midnight.

It was also announced on air that they'll be doing this until Christmas.

this is a smart move no need to go 24-7 play it from 7pm-12am this is when most people are christmas shopping wrapping presents ETC ETC

Christmas 24/7 would be appropriate the week before Christmas.

Take a look what happened in both NYC and in the Hudson Valley listening area, you've got WLTW's "Lite-fm" playing Christmas and CBS-FM now plays the same thing, are they going to hurt "Lite-FM"? Yep! Now look what they've done in the HV outside of NYC. WRNQ and WCTW, the two "Lite-FM" stations playing the same Christmas music, and that goes to WKLI's "Magic 100.9" and WTRY 98.3, now we got too much Christmas music on this station. This is driving me nuts! I don't know who programmed these stations? It's run by Scrooge, can we stop the madness after the holidays, we need to go back to regular programming. Enough with the Christmas nonsense!!!
