WCBS-FM No Thanksgiving Day Countdown This Year...first year of no countdown ?

I just heard WCBS-FM announced they will be playing unique songs all day on Thanksgiving Day...This rules out any Thanksgiving Day Countdown they had previous aired though the years...Just wondering does anyone know the first year WCBS-FM begin their Thanksgiving Day Countdowns ?

MusicRadioUS,

WCBS-FM did a Top 500 Countdown during the Labor Day weekend holiday.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

Hi Kevin,

I was referring to WCBS-FM first Thanksgiving Day Countdown...could it be they started this right away when they began their Oldies format in 1972 ?

Wait...this just in...update...WCBS-FM is doing their Top 101 Countdown but instead of their normal 101 PM Starting time on Thanksgiving Day they have elected to start on Friday morning at 6:00 AM the day after Thanksgiving Day.

this isnt the same WCBS-FM of old. Im not completely surprised.

Seriously, CBSFM should have did the top 101 of the 60's, 70's & 80's during the labor day weekend instead of the Top 500. I know this is not the old version of CBSFM but still, the yearly Tradition should still live on with the NY Top 500 all thanksgiving day weekend beginning at 1:01pm Thanksgiving Day on the new incarnation of CBSFM 101.1. Just because when CBSFM was on HD 2 and the dot com for the past 2 years doing this same programming doesn't mean they have to continue it like that.

Re: WCBS-FM No Thanksgiving Day Countdown This Year...first year of no countdown

I missed the "New York Top 500 Countdown" on CBS-FM. :( They usually had that every Thanksgiving but I do remember all of the top 500 songs survey starting from #500 "California Sun" by the Rivieras right up to "In the Still of the Nite" by the Five Satins which was the #1 song on CBS-FM's "New York Top 500". I have them all on my iPod, so I have to count them down in order on my playlist. The original "New York Top 500" is a lot better than the updated version from 2004.

I found a link to an old CBS-FM website, they have the "Top 500 Songs of All Time". Go check it out.

As was the case with the Penguins' "Earth Angel" always finishing at #2 each year. Is it because they're "local legends"?
