WCBS gives shabby treatment to Pat St. John

Here's a guy who's considered in the same league as Harry Harrison, Cousin Brucie, Dan Ingram, Bob Shannon and Dan Taylor and he's the victim of the bone-headed decision by CBS to sell air-time to the NFL. The last two weeks Pat St. John has only been able to do an hour and a half of his show because at 11:30 both weeks the station switched to football. That's no way to treat one of their signature DJ's. At the very least since St. John was being preempted both weeks, CBS should have extended the courtesy of inviting St. John to do his show Saturday afternoon 2-7. It's shameful.

I don't think there is any intention to slight Pat here - the games just happen to fall during his timeslot. Pat does a good number of fill-ins, including a recent stint filling in for Dan Taylor in AM drive - definitely nothing to sneeze at. He also does some voiceover work for the station. Plus, he has commitments at Sirius/XM during the week which probably prevent him from taking a full-time weekday slot. As for the 3-7 slot, it's consistently been filled either by Ron Parker or by jocks who don't have regular slots (Famous Amos and Steve O'Brien), so I think Ron may own the slot now.

I didn't listen today, but on other times that Giants football was on WCBS-FM the greatest hits were heard on wcsfm.com. It is quite possible that Pat did the show online today. I must concur that this was not a slight on Pat St.John. I do disagree with the decision to move the games to 101.1 FM. IMHO they should hae been aired on 92.3 FM. In any event, this is the last time this will happen this year since the Mets season is over and all Giant games will be on WFAN.

The football game was broadcast over the stream today, and last week they had automated music going. So no, Pat was not heard.

In a previous format, it would make sense to air the football game on 92.3. But it doesn't mesh well with a CHR format, and a fairly new format for the frequency, at that.

So the Giants game aired online? Wouldn't be the first time an NFL telecast slipped through over an Internet stream...

By the way, I think the Mets' contract should be reworked so that, should they be out of playoff contention come September, any games that conflict with Giants telecasts should be moved to 101.1's HD2 channel!

How many people own HD radios?

Thanks,

In any event WFAN has a much longer range than WCBS-FM, so in the event the Mets are mathematically eliminated in September, WFAN should get the Giants and the Mets to 101.1 HD1. Apparently it was an error for the Giants to be webcast on wcbsfm.com on 10/4.

I guess I am one of the few people who owns and HD radio.

Football is big business. No one should take shift cutspersonally. Football is huge in Pittsburgh on FM. Philly too. AM signal problems (even daytime, with directionals such as 1050) are well known. NY Football GAMES should be on FM regardless of whose shift is cut.

Exactly.

I don't understand how Mets and Giants games are aired on the same station since almost all Mets fans are Jets fans. Although, since 'FAN also airs Nets and Devils games, maybe all the Mets/Giants fans are in Jersey since I'm not from Jersey.
