WCBSFM tribute to Johnny Maestro of the Brooklyn Bridge

We lost Johnny to cancer :'( Wcbsfm is playing his songs from the old days "The Crests to The Brooklyn Bridge :) They are doing a wonderful Tribute to him as he is a Friend of the station and everyone, He loved his fans!! RIP Johnny and Thanks to you wcbsfm for your support during this difficult time. God Bless!!

Enjoy a couple of days of hearing the Crests and then CBS-FM will go right back to playing the 70s and 80s and forget that
1955-63 ever existed.

They do a small fraction of what they can.

At least they are doing something - better than zilch that I bet other stations are doing, aside from playing "Worst That Could Happen." Not every station can play an hour of Johnny Maestro like WMTR did this evening at 9.

I know the Dj's there would love to do more, but its the format now, they must follow it. I am so happy that got rid of that J station and we must deal the way it is now or turn if off, I miss the 50 and early 60's but I have sirius and a ipod when I need that fix. Time is changing like everything else. I am just glad I have great personalities to talk too and see them when I can. :) I loved the night Sue O'Neal did the tribute to Johnny on the RP show, I know RP would probably so the same. :) Enjoy what we have, they are not #2 for nothing!!

They are number 2 because of distorted PPM ratings research which only measures if the station is on but, not if anyone is listening. If the diary system, which was not perfect either, but better, was used, CBS-FM's ratings would be much lower.

Well...thats probably untrue....but, thankfully they don't play to the ratings system which isn't used anymore.

Besides there is no major market radio station in America that is successful in either ratings or billing that
plays primarily music from 1955-1963. None. Zero.

The bottom line is that there are 78,000,000 baby boomers who want to hear 50s and 60s music that are not being served by so called classic hits stations.

"there are 78,000,000 baby boomers who want to hear 50s and 60s music "

ALL Boomers don't want to hear 50s and 60s music. Many of them have moved on and like more contemporary music, different genres than pop, and talk radio.
Not everyone lives in the past.

Regardless of the trend this thread has taken, I am thankful that CBS-FM remembered Johnny.

The music of the 50s, 60s and 70s is just as fresh and applicable to today as it ever was, except that the 50s, 60s and 70s were a cleaner, more innocent time, not as in your face.

:) I moved on, still some of my friends want the 50's but all things change. I see myself changing abit!! As I said, buy cd's and download them on a ipod. When you need the fix, listen!! the Internet has some 50's too.

So true. The biggest complaint I hear from friends and former co-workers about 102.9 DRC-FM in Hartford is about the 80s crap they play and not enough oldies. And these are people who range from as young as 25 and as old as mid-60s.

Putting aside the reliability of a ratings diary, the PPM system is totally worthless. It only measures if a station is on but, not if anybody is actually listening to it. A station could be playing in the background like wallpaper in an office or a store and the station will get PPM credit even though nobody is listening. How does an advertiser benefit if nobody is listening. It is sort of like if a tree falls in the forest, does it make any noise. The few remaining so called personality djs should be worried about this also. If the objective of a station, because of PPM, just wants to be on to get credit and it doesn't matter if anybody is listening, so called personality djs serve no purpose. Under PPM technology, the objective of the rated station is to be background wallpaper and djs don't matter.

It doesn't matter. It's the system. Radio stations and owners have no choice. They fought it tooth and nail. It will cost stations much more money to subscribe to the new system, and no one knows if it's more accurate. But that's the system the advertisers want. They pushed for it, they wanted something verifiable, and that's the end of the discussion. So stations have to play by new rules. No amount of ranting, complaining, or even going to Congress is going to change it.
