WCCC-FM New Home of the Connecticut Whale

According to this morning's Hartford Courant, the new broadcast home of the Connecticut Whale starting next season is WCCC-FM 106.9. All regular season and playoff games will be carried by WCCC-FM. Howard Baldwin, head of Whalers Sports & Entertainment, said a radio deal was a priority. Long time play-by-play voice of the AHL franchise Bob Crawford will continue. Most of last seasons games were "heard" on WTIC-FM HD2 and WTIC.com.

I guess I will have to finally give WCCC-FM a preset on my car radio. WCCC-FM has also been carrying the New England Patriots for several years. Hopefully, we will have a NFL season come September.

Congrats to Mr. Baldwin from rescuing the Whale from radio obscurity. Do you have the same feelings when the "Rock" carries the Pats or does your idiocy only carry to hockey??

The Whale really needs to get games on TV, either on a Hartford station or on Comcast Sports Net, to become a real presence in the state's sports scene. Minor league sports are promoted more as "family fun" than as competitive events, so the crowds that show up at Whale and New Britain Rock Cats games are 90 percent families enjoying the atmosphere and loud music and giveaways, 10 percent serious sports fans. None of the T-shirt-toss fans are going to be listening to games on radio, whether they're on AM, FM or HD. Televised games will attract much more attention from casual fans, who might become paying customers if they like what they see on TV. Nobody's going to come out to the empty old mall, er, XL Center after hearing a game on the radio.

I assume there's a good-sized payment coming 'CCC's way from the Whale in return for the airtime, most likely more money than the station is now billing while playing rock (and paying a full-timer to do it) during the 7-10 p.m. slot that most AHL games fit into. If they really want to make the beancounters smile, 'CCC ought to strike a similar deal with the Rock Cats and put the shift on autopilot during the rare nights that there isn't a game.

are we sure this is not going on the AM? If this news is true it will kill more listeners to Pandora/Satellite. This is why I try to never miss a show on XCI. it is such a Fragile media these days. do one thing its like something you always had is now broken. If this is true I can see it being an advertising strategy. Now if CCC could buy the 95.9 FOX and get active rock down here until then, Back to My q104.3 HD-2 its on 24/7 at home.
CCC: please upgrade your stream to AAC+ HE V.2 VBR I beg of you. then I would listen to you nonstop.

http://wccc.com/klonksarmy/ Going by a logo on this page, it is the FM side carrying the games.

It's definitely the FM. There was a rewritten press release in today's Meriden Record-Journal that said the deal includes year-round promotions for the team on Rock 106.9 and team personnel making frequent on-air appearances during music programs to hype the product. You're not going to be able to get away from this team, no matter when you listen to CCC. Must be BIIIIGGGG bucks involved for them to promise a minor league hockey team that much air time.
