WCFB Star 94.5 flips from Urban A/C to Old School Hip Hop

The rocket scientists at cox have decided that this old school hip hop fad is worth changing formats on quite a few of their stations around the country. You can now add Star 94.5 to that list.
WCFB just got a 5.6 share in the November book overall and has been averaging around a 6 share in the previous 3 books taking the top spot back in August. There seems to be more complaints about the change then compliments on their face book page. And allot of the posts are complaining about them dropping the long running Tom Joyner morning show. The P/D is naturally defending the decision although I'm pretty sure he had nothing to do with it. They couldn’t just throw a few more of those old school tunes into the playlist? Maybe throw in a few more in at night. This kind of format belongs on an HD-2.

That was a bold move by Cox.

It may come back to haunt them. If it doesn't work, then I think some heads are going to roll.

They should have taken the 107.3 Translator and tested the format, as it is right in the heart of the African American Section of the market.

It appears someone on John Young Pkwy has been reading the face book and other social media complaints about the change. They've updated their website to say they play todays R&B as well as the throwbacks. The playlist now has more R&B and currents, but no classic soul (not that they played much anyway). They're also bringing back the Sunday morning Gospel show, but as of now no Tom Joyner.
