WCRN 830 AM to go to 50kw nigts starting 1/2007

Decided to post this as this change may affect east coast listeners of WCCO.

According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette (sports section) WCRN will boost it's nighttime signal to 50 kw starting 1/2007. This increase should enable WCRN to be heard throughtout the Boston Metrowest area, all of Worcester County (MA), northern RI and southern NH. (this must be the groundwave part of the signal).
A WCRN station was quoted as saying "it is offical,it is going to happen, we will build it."
WCRN debeued as a 5000 watt station with (what else) religious programming but now does talk shows and sports and is 50kw during the day. Former Congressman Peter Blute (R) hosts a talk show on the station.

I don't know much about the proposed signal pattern and if it will affect 50kw WCCO in Minneapolis. Y'all can look it up and figure it out. I have enough problem finding the on/off switch on the radio.

Thanks Joe for that info- I'm not a rocket scientist (wish I were) but it appears WCRN will be throwing out their signal to the NE-E-SE- which means it may become a very popular station for ships way out at sea, Icelanders, and folks from Bermuda. Am I right? Do I get my rocket science diploma?

"Fish cooker" exemption.

Put towers on opposite side of town from the ocean, shoot across the metro and out to sea, because there is no interference protection over water.

This station should be great for Red Sox fans in Maine and the Maritime Provinces (the 50 kw upgrade was part of their deal with the 'Sox). With most AMs shut off north of the border, this station should really boom in at night throughout eastern Canada. It could even be a good dx target across the Atlantic in Ireland and Scotland.

Back in 2004, I was in Rumford, Maine and 830 was one of the best nightime signals there at that time. Almost as a local with very little fade - and that was with just 5 kw. With 50 kw, it would be just awesome in that area.
