Hank Stolz this morning announced that his longtime partner at WCRN (and before that at WTAG) Sherman Whitman will be moving to afternoons beginning this Monday 1/18. WCRN will be adding live and local newscasts with Sherman starting at Noon continuing through the Howie Carr show. He also announced that the station will be carrying the Worcester Bravehearts baseball telecasts with Sherman doing the PBP. They are also exploring carrying some local high school sports.
When Hank spoke about the change he took a shot at WTAG’s “local” news being broadcast from a news hub in Rochester, NY. He said that they have a hard time even pronouncing some of the local communities such as Leominster.
He reminisced how when he first went to work at WTAG he was the afternoon news anchor / reporter with a full time news department. Hank said they had been considering this move for a while now and want to deliver live & local news with someone that knows the area broadcasting right from central New England.
Current PM Drive producer Ben White will be moving to the WCRN Morning News starting Monday as well.
IMHO, this is a good move and can only help WCRN.
