WCYC-LP London OH taken off air by theft.

The local London newspaper also reported on the theft here:

http://www.madison-press.com/news/local-news/local-radio-station-robbed-off-air/

They seem to have assembled a pretty good staff at the station:

Their Radio Info coverage map:

Also, from their 2002 application for a CP:

Exhibit 2
Description: MADISON AREA YOUTH CENTER'S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

MADISON AREA YOUTH CENTER, INCORPORATED (A.K.A. 'THE ARMORY' YOUTH
CENTER) WAS INCORPORATED IN THE STATE OF OHIO ON SEPTEMBER 10, 1997.

THE MAIN PURPOSE OF OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AT 'THE ARMORY' IS TO
HELP YOUTH IDENTIFY AND DEVELOP HEALTHY, POSITIVE CHARACTER ASSETS THAT CAN EQUIP THEM TO BUILD HEALTHIER, MORE STABLE, PRODUCTIVE LIVES.

WE OFFER RELIGIOUS AND VALUES-RELATED EDUCATION WITHIN THE WELL
DEVELOPED FRAMEWORK OF THE ASSET-BUILDING MODEL DEVELOPED BY SEARCH
INSTITUTE, IN ORDER TO BUILD BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SUPPORT
MECHANISMS THAT HAVE BEEN CLEARLY DEMONSTRATED TO HELP YOUTH SUCCEED.
OUR RELIGIOUS MODEL IS CHRISTIAN, NON-DENOMINATIONAL.
OUR EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS OFFER A DIVERSE ARENA OF
INTERESTS TO OUR LOCAL YOUTH. AT OUR YOUTH CENTER CHILDREN AND TEENS MAY ENGAGE IN AFTER-SCHOOL AND EVENING PROGRAMMING WHICH INCLUDES TUTORING, COMPUTER-AIDED STUDIES, COMPUTER GAMES, MENTORING, CRAFTS, PEER YOUTH GROUPS OR ORGANIZED GAMES AND SPORTS.

IF ABLE TO OBTAIN AN L.P.F.M. LICENSE, WE WILL INCORPORATE IT INTO OUR
YOUTH CENTER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM AS FOLLOWS. RECENT BROADCASTING
GRADUATES HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO ACT AS MENTORS FOR YOUTH WHO HAVE
EXPRESSED AN INTEREST IN BROADCASTING. THEY CAN TEACH THEM ABOUT RADIO, ABOUT A GOOD WORK ETHIC, ABOUT COMMITMENT TO LEARN AND PRODUCE A CLEAN, RESPECTIBLE PRODUCT FOR THEIR PEERS.
IN OUR DAILY BROADCASTING WE WILL INCORPORATE MUSIC THAT INTERESTS YOUTH AND ALSO HAS A GOOD MESSAGE. WE WILL DEVELOP A 'CALL-IN' FORMAT WHERE THEY AND THEIR PEERS CAN DIALOGUE ABOUT TOPICS THAT INTEREST AND
CHALLENGE THEM. THROUGH THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS, WE WILL HELP THEM
DEVELOP THEIR OWN FORMATS AND SHOWS SO THAT, OVER TIME, THEY WILL BEGIN TO FEEL A SENSE OF OWNERSHIP, PRIDE AND ACCOMPLISHMENT.

'THE ARMORY' YOUTH CENTER IS ALWAYS EXPLORING NEW AND CREATIVE PROGRAMS FOR TEENS WHO USE OUR FACILITY. AN L.P.F.M. LICENSE AND BROADCASTING STATION WOULD BE AN EXCEPTIONAL ADDITION TO OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING THAT WOULD APPEAL TO AN EVEN WIDER GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO NEED TO BE 'PLUGGED IN' TO A POSITIVE, LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

Looks like you beat Bigley on this. He's usually the Google master. ;D

Saw this on NBC4 then googled it:

"Due to a burglary during the night and/or early morning hours of March 20th - 21st at the Armory Building, which involved the theft of the radio station's studio equipment, WCYC-LP is currently off the air."

Cabot Rae of WCMH said on the 11:00PM news cast last night that WCRX-LP radio in Bexley supplied the equipment to get WCYC-LP back on the air.
This response makes WCRX-LP a hero?

we didn't supply the equipment, although we did carry stuff over to assist them if they needed it. We were prepared to lend them a mini studio to get them back on the air. As it turned out, all they needed was someone with a clue on how their stuff went back together, and that only took about 32 minutes to re-assemble their two studios.

It took longer to figure out their transmitter problem, they are operating at low power, but at least they are on the air. It was thought that their engineer/technician might know or see what the problem was, as there was some equipment near the transmitter that may have indicated a former problem. Their transmitter was apparently working okay after the theft, they turned it off, so whatever problem is most likely minor.

It was suggested that they might want to check thier antenna height, as they might be shorting themselves on the power vs height curve.

WCRX isn't really a hero, didn't try to be, it was simply felt that as two LPFM's we had a kinship, and we should help them if we could

They could probably improve their signal by using a better transmit antenna than that crappy Ramsey 5/8 wave whip.
