WDAS AM Philadelphia PA format change to classic soul

I think they sound pretty good. They are quite repetitive right now. Most impressive, I am hearing some deeper stuff, especially from the Philly/East Coast artists - the Intruders, Billy Paul, the Masqueraders, Moments/Ray, Goodman and Brown/ and the Stylistics.

I would not quite put them in the 1. KKDA-AM 2. WWWS-AM 3. WDIA category but a lot of potential, more in the next tier of the very few true urban oldies AMs with WATV/WVOL/KCOH (when it is not talking or playing Gospel) and WGVN.

If the repetition is taken care of and perhaps a bit more uniqueness added to the presentation it could move into the very top tier in my view.

For a Clear Channel station, it sounds good. I especially like the depth of the playlist which goes beyond the standard hits we always hear. This station is now on my "favorite stations list", replacing another Clear Channel station Groovin 1580 (Lexington,Ky) which changed their format from Urban Oldies to Urban AC after the Christmas Holidays. I love Urban AC too, but they are starting to drop a lot of 70's and early 80's music that I like from their playlist.

Definitely sorry to hear about WGVN but I am glad they stayed in the urban format.

Have been listening some more to WDAS-AM. Music is good but presentation could be improved. Some suggestions, are there old WDAS-AM jingles laying around somewhere? It would be great to hear them on the air. What about using WDAS legends such as Butter or Jerry Wells to do some voicers? I know that DJs will not be coming due to the fact that the station is owned by CC.

With it being about four months since the station signed on, I'm concerned that it hasn't seen so much as a blip in the ratings.

Enjoy the classic soul format as long as it lasts. Not many of those stations out there anymore.

Its on a AM signal. Some dont even know the station is on the air unless billboards are put up around Philly. Not to mention WDAS FM and WRNB are on the air.

Well, I spoke a little soon. They have gotten a little traction in the March ratings (if a .3 can be considered that). Hopefully it'll hold or better yet gain.

I wouldn't write off AM as dead...yet. If they play their cards right, the station can be a success albeit a modest one. As you suggest putting up billboards, I might also suggest being a presence at car shows, certain sporting events, dances, maybe motorcycle/scooter shows and perhaps some other events of interest. I might also suggest that manufacturers of high quality AM radios be considered as a source of revenue for advertisement.

Would not worry about ratings for this station. It remains the Spanish language affiliate for Phillies baseball as it was when it was Rhumba 1480 WUBA. So CC probably doesn't mind that the ratings are zilch. The station is still profitable with the ads from Phillies baseball. Keep in mind that as an smartphone app, iHeartRadio has no other station that plays R&B oldies like WDAS AM. ;)
