I tuned in to WDEL's midday report with Allan Loudell and after Loudell signed off the station promoted the Phillies game coming up next and then silence for about 10 minutes. I checked out WPHT and the Phillies feed was on. I called WDEL's receptionist and told her that WDEL was off the air. She thanked me and said she'd let someone know. A few minutes later they were back on the air with a sports talk show from a satellite. A few minutes later they did switch over to the Phillies game. Apparently when they broadcast the Phillies games they put WDEL into an automated format. The computer "fouled" when they paused for the legal id where rather than a WDEL legal id a spot for the Carmen Auto group started to play and was of course cut off after the 10 second break. Someone must have caught the problem, because the next legal id worked as it should ( I guess that jock at WSTW had a strobe light flashing today a couple of times).
So it would appear that Clear Channel with WILM and WWTX aren't the only one's with automation problems and no one paying close attention to the AM station. However, it was great to hear the Phillies game as it made spring seem a bit closer. The Blue Rocks took advantage of this game to promote the Wilmington minor league team's up coming season during a local spot break.
