Personally, this doesn't surprise me and that may explain why Mediabase moved them to the Rhythmic panel now that WDTW are adding more currents. And on top of that, Detroit is a Dance town so it doesn't hurt to appeal to those listeners. Now if they can do better ratingswise...

Personally I think this is how a Rhythmic CHR should sound.. Lots of pop remixes,, some Hip Hop,, some Oldschool,, It still sounds rhythmic AC to me though,,, A typical Rhythmic CHR wouldnt play 80s golds from janet and Micheal Jackson, and The Whispers-Rock Steady.. I think they need alot of work on the mediase chart classfication if you ask me,, just like their are mainstream urbans on the Rhythmic panel that dont belong. and Pop leaning Rhythmics on the Rhythmic panel, and in come cases more Rhythmic heavy CHRs on the Mainstream chart...

Who cares about charts anyway,, if its dancy and has a beat and a club feel,, put it in the Dance panel. Just as long as it plays a good deal of current Dance, including remixes..

So is just about every CHR and CHR/Rhythmic station.

I still say WKQI is the best. There are actually quite a bit of places in the U.S. where I'd pick the WKQI style format over the local chr AND rhythmic, and any local dance station that isn't as versatile in their dance styles and sounds as WKQI are within their mixshows.

I disagree. IMO, KTFM-San Antonio and KKHH-Houston are much more current in playing Dance music compared to WDTW. Both currently have David Guetta-Memories, Yolanda Be Cool and Edward Maya-Stereo Love in rotation.

But if you actually listen to it you will hear that about 60 percent of their playlist is dance remixes of pop hits,, not straight ahead dance, but its more than most rhythmics or rhythmic ACs will touch.

I've been listening to WKSL a lot lately. Really a good mix of music and you're right -- really dance friendly. IMO this is probably the closest thing to KTU right now. Who would have thought it'd be in Raleigh??!

BTW, it looks like a lot of the Rhythmic ACs are getting more current heavy. Another example, My106.1 in Philly. They have moved their powers up from around 30x a week to now close to 50x. I have the feeling they are on their way to the Hot AC panel.

You have to remember that Raleigh did pick up a Rhythmic in WWPL/WPLW, so WKSL's sudden shift to currents was bound to happen.

What we're seeing here is a new breed of Dance-leaning Rhythmics, and at this rate these stations will make "Blazin' Hip-Hop and R&B" look like a outdated fad.

Ugh. I wish we *had* a Rhythmic AC in Philly anymore. It's basically a Hot AC now

While all the other Rhythmic ACs morphed into dance-leaning Rhythmics... we got stuck with a station that plays Daughtry and Nickelback next to Shannon and Taio Cruz.

At least ATL has rhythmic WWVA on an acceptably decent signal and they play SOME dance. WWWQ has a Saturday night mix show that features some different styles of dance and hits that most big town chr's already play regularly.

I'm going to explore Philly though...

...Ok, within the first 39 seconds of researching, I already saw 3 (dance) songs playing on a Philadelphia station that remain non existent in Atlanta;

1. Yeah 3x - Chris Brown
2. The time (Dirty Bit) - Black Eyed Peas
3. Stereo Love - Edward Maya ft Vika

To be generous, I wont even include "Angel" by Akon.

This is just on one Philly station, so far...

WWVA is playing BEP, but otherwise you're right. However, Atlanta kills Philly when it comes to mixshows, which is quite sad.

The best mixshow we have is the Remix Top 30 on WISX. Atlanta wins in that department! haha

I figured. I never listened to a Philly mixshow, though. I'm just amazed at how a market like Atlanta got "left behind" when it comes to sounding like a top 10 market. Anyone coming to the international city from out of town is probably thinking "what the h*ll is going on in this country" when they hear the type of options some (so called) major markets have to offer, radio-wise... (unless of course they're looking for formats with nothing but straight slow hip hop & r&b, then they're in heaven!)

When you really think about it, L.A. isn't really all that either. They just have a large sea of rhythmics, but they sure do beat the hell out of Atlanta in rhythmic, top 40, soft rock, hot ac, latin rhythm, rhythmic oldies, classic hip hop... etc. L.A. beats Az in... just dance. Wow...

If only Atl chr's mixed more often. I don't know why I say chr's as if there are more than one.
