The Wikipedia entry for WMKK notes that in 2005, Star 93.7 changed into Mike. But it also mentions
that had Entercom not done this, Infinity might have...the next day... (Star had poor ratings, it says)
>>On April 14, 2005, WQSX became the current WMKK. Inside Radio, a radio industry publication, released information that had this change not taken place, Infinity Broadcasting (interestingly, the group that was prohibited from owning 93.7 itself back in the late 1990s, and is now known as CBS Radio) reportedly would have transformed either WBMX, WZLX, or even WODS to Jack FM on April 15.

Interesting. Imagine what could have happened:
--No more Mix 98.5; perhaps the Sports Hub deal still would have happened, and "Jack 98.5" would
have moved to 104.1...
OR
--Bye bye to classic rock, it's Jack 100.7...or bye to Oldies 103; it's time for Jack
Now had Entercom NOT flipped Star to Mike what could have happened? Maybe Entercom would have
moved WEEI to 93.7 and gotten the first sports FM in Boston...who knows what would have become of 850
Still interesting to see that Entercom beat infinity (now CBS) to the punch. I think I do remember hearing something like this
Something similar: 96.9 was to flip to country but WKLB (then at 105.7) beat them to it. Eventually it did flip and there were two stations, then they merged, and changed frequencies a couple times.. "beating them to
the punch"
