We get a new radio station Monday on a famous frequency. (Talk Radio 1190)

From AllAccess:

http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/a...tmedia-to-debut-talkradio-1190-dallas-ft-wort

IHEARTMEDIA DALLAS/FT.WORTH will launch KFXR-A (TALK RADIO 1190) on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17th.

The station will deliver the area up-to-date Talk and News programming, airing local and TEXAS-based syndicated talk shows such as"The RUSS MARTIN Show," "The MICHAEL BERRY Program" and "The MATT PATRICK Show."

"The RUSS MARTIN Show" will lead weekday mornings from 7-11a (CT), followed by TEXAS- based syndicated shows with hosts MATT PATRICK from 2-5p (CT) and MICHAEL BERRY from 5-7p (CT).

The remainder of the day will showcase local and national Talk shows.

how many times is this for KFXR to launch talk?? iHeart /CC paid $18 million for that station and has YET to see any payback....
Last time I heard Russ (Martinez) on the Eagle, I shook my head....all there was going on was laughs, farts, giggles and not much else....he is no longer funny...Michael Berry is a disgrace to SE Texas where he is from...but got on KTRH Houston and is also carried (an hour late) on KLVI in Beaumont...

KFXR will blow low in the ratings as usual....shame for the former BIG KLIF that ruled the airwaves in the 60/70s

The day site could be ran at 1KW night and the 12 tower night site sold for a big profit....could not do any worse than they do now

That's a fate I think quickly awaits a lot of the old big gun top 40 DAs, run big power daytime with one or two towers, possibly diplexed with other AMs, then cut night power back to whatever is economically feasible just to cover the city of license. Good bye six, nine, twelve tower night time arrays. Hello new strip centers, industrial parks and reclaimed farm ground.

KLIF has been 50KW day and their OLD night site SE of Dallas was 1KW but had no signal to FTW because of KEX....iHeart owns KEX now...and WOWO is downgraded to B status....also Dave Hultsman told me once they looked at 1KW from the Irving day site...only problem was an allocated Canadian 1190....but it was NEVER built....NOW, iHeart owns KEX (Mutual interference agreement can be easily written between them)...BUT KC's upgrade on 1190 may stop KFXR from going night at day site unless they pulled in the north bump (the pattern looks like a sombrero!!) or work out an interference agreement....east/west would not be a problem now at night...CC should have done this in 2001 when they bought 1190......damn ass Lowry Mays wanted the signal to hear Aggie football in Dallas....yeah $18mill was a REAL good investment....NOT.....NO ROI at all on it since...

BTW 1190 at 1KW from Irving day site would cover better than the 5KW now at night....especially into N Dallas and FTW.....the Rockwall land would be LOTS of money....and I would love to own one of the towers......but iHeart screwed up years ago...could have opened the night pattern to NW after getting KEX...but didnt.....STUPID!!!

KDMR is 500watts at night DA (got that licensed in Aug of this year)....omni day at 5KW....they may not be a problem for Dallas's 1190 at 1KW from the Irving site...KDMR still has a deep null south to protect Guadalajara....so that may be KFXR got out of bad pattern card.....KFXRs day pattern throws nothing to the south (to protect Mexico and WOAI)...so not a problem...a KW at Irving would result in LESS power thrown west toward the Phoenix 1190 which HAS upgraded....so not an issue that I can see..WOW is not an issue since they are a B now and lost A status.....KEX would be the only issue and iHeart owns both...so can write mutual interference agreements between them.......iHeart/CC had since 2001 to do this....and hasnt.....they are idiots......getting better night coverage over N Dallas/Irving/Plano would be worth it.....and the money they could go for the Rockwall night site would be MORE than enough to cover any changes in the Irving pattern if needed.....but then who said iHeart was iSMART???

KFXR and KEX are 1,600 miles apart. Any upgrade of KFXR's night signal would have no effect on the significant listening audience of KEX, and would only be noticed by AM DX geeks in the western U.S. Given the pileup on stations on any given frequency (especially with former daytimers now running night service) the protection considerations no longer make any sense, and haven't since the 1980's. Once you get out of any station's primary coverage area, there is no saleable audience. Fifty years ago, things would have been different, but that was before the heavy growth of FM and other audio alternatives.

The best post-KLIF format for 1190 was probably the one it never had, namely the planned but never launched Urban Gospel format during the KJOI incarnation in the early 2000's. The current signal would have been perfect for that. I'm sure there are ethnic and religious broadcasters who would still love to get their hands on 1190.

Many wax nostalgic about the glory days of KLIF 1190 (which I remember) but those ended almost 35 years ago when Top 40 was dropped. Irrelevant for the station in 2014 and beyond.

You forget KEX is a Class A......(as was WOWO).....They have protection to now 750 miles out but in the days, it was a clear and KLIF could NOT throw any signal toward KEX...they still dont!!!!....at the Madison building where CC 1st put 1190's studios, you could NOT (and still cannot) hear 1190 there at night....the null to the NW to protect KEX is still in place....however, 1190 at night blows 10x the signal they should toward WOWO (or did in 2001 when I ran the pattern...due to a cell tower 3 miles from the Rockwall site on the southern edge of the lobe...CC never did anything about it and with WOWO's downgrade, noone complained since the power drop on WOWO made a lot of them think it was due to that)

As a Class A, KEX still has to be protected UNLESS it signed a mutual interference agreement with KFXR and with both owned by iHeart (though subsidiaries like Citicasters, the fomer Jacor and others), that would be a simple thing to do....I proposed opening KFXR's night pattern up to the NW in 2001.....see how far that went?? Regional VP of Egr Gil Garcia agreed with my recommendation and he laughed at why CC bought it.....(so Lowry Mays could hear Aggie football while in Dallas!!)....Yet the company, who owned KEX at the time, decided NOT to spend the money....the NULL to KEX still exists and MUST......unless a simple piece of paperwork was signed off on.....the use of the DAY site at night is possible..I ran the day site one night at 1KW and it covered N Dallas better than the 5KW Rockwall site did!!!! (also found out the DX 50 had a bad module or two due to the choppy audio at that power level :) )....1KW or 2.5KW from the day site at night would be a good signal....and iHeart would gain more than they lose...but noone said the upper management is smart (Some former CC engineers do NOT have kind words for Jeff Littlejohn or others...and I agree with a lot of them!!) They do stupid things and pass on improvements that would cost a little but in the long run be have a great ROI.....oh well.....

Radio One was going to do and did launch a gospel format on 1190 as KJOI......but when they had the swap with CC/AMFM, 1190 went to CC....because Lowry Mays dangled enough money in RO's face...otherwise, the format would have stayed on 1190....(I was involved in all that)....BUT the night signal NULL right over N Dallas and Plano, etc is why noone else makes an offer toward 1190...CC paid WAY too much for it...and has NEVER recovered a dollar on it (well, with the Rockwall tower light changes, MAYBE.....)......

Doesn't like fart jokes. Calls iHeart Media "iHeart".

Makes sense.

At least it's not the same old talk lineup 1000 other stations have.

Russ is working for the right company it seems.....Fart jokes?? didnt say I didnt like them...BUT if that's all you got, that's sad...

Good point. From what I've heard of the guy he's not that great, but at least it's not yet another canned talk station. It's something different.

KEX is a Class A......it has a protected service contour at night of 750 miles radius from its tower site....BUT it has a 3 tower DA at night that pulls in the eastern lobe:

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KEX&service=AM&status=L&hours=N

Compared to the daytime pattern of omni makes you wonder...but night AM does NOT make it ground coverage over the Rockies well...
http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KEX&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

It is the ONLY Class A on 1190 now since WOWO went to a Class B....however, any other Class Bs in the way MIGHT cause a problem but I doubt it

EDIT: NOPE...looked on the database...KC and Phoenix did get upgrades.....but KFXR is a Class B and the opening of the pattern to the NW would not afffect KC or Phoenix at all.....KEX was the only issue and now its not......i FART????? IS ANYONE still using their brains th.........oh never mind....we ARE talking about CC/iFM, etc....the same BASTARDS who released me on a lie and which cost me a lot of other good jobs.....

Yea I wouldn't really call it a conservo talker. There might be 2 or 3 short political hosts on there, but for the most part it seems to be a watered down Live 105.3

Are these conservative hosts? All I've heard of Russ Martin was some hacky comedy bits.

Russ is as conservative as Rush Limbaugh is liberal!!! :)

I WILL give Russ credit...he can run his own board...(Limbaugh would not know how to change a defunct audio delay or how to use the delay...he has engineers in another room do all that!)...Russ knows how to technically fix things and use them right....SO he is one up on that on MOST on air folks

Yawn. Along with fixing the night pattern, unless Cheap Channel promotes 1190 with billboards and television ads this station will never do anything.
