WEBSITE: HISTORY OF ATLANTA TV

Just doing some google searches and came across a site that has a timeline of Atlanta TV
complete with old station logos and such. Some may be interested in seeing it.

Whoever put this together got Channel 17's original call letters wrong:
they were WJRJ, not WRJR. Also, even though they did post the first
"11 Alive" logo, I wish they'd mentioned when it was first used: 1976.
Except for one brief period (in the '90s, IIRC), WXIA has used "Alive"
for 35 years come September!

I was August 1994 when WXIA decided to be like everyone else and not use "Alive" in their name -- only for public demand to force them to bring it back.

If only WPIX's viewers had that same passion, we would still be seeing "11 Alive" today, with "WB 11 Alive" and "CW 11 Alive" used in the past.

...that's kinda wild -- I was News Director at WRJR Radio in Zion, Illinois (North Chicago suburban area) in 1984-85. If only that station were bought out by someone with Ted Turner's business sense ;D ...

The Atlanta Rewound website is a cousin to another splendid website with tons of local radio and television history. If you haven't yet, you need to check out www.birminghamrewound.com. One of the monthly features includes airchecks from some of Birmingham's notable radio stations and personalities. This month's classic aircheck features the last twelve or so minutes from WSGN before they left the air for good in 1985. For those of you not familiar with WSGN, it was one of the seminal AM Top 40 powerhouses of the 60's and 70's. By 1984 'SGN had abandoned Top 40 for adult standards.
