WEEI/OR SPORTS HUB 985? WHAT YOU LIKE NOT LIKE?

I heard Toucher and Rich just excoriating Gary Tanguay the other day...mocking Tanguay's deep, self-important voice. It was pure gold. Tanguay is in that pool of talent that really needs to be taken to the woodshed frequently. I was glad to hear it.

I don't think I'd call D&C "class acts" by any stretch but maybe that's just me... Toucher and Rich are puerile at times but not as mean-spirited as D&C.

I'd hardly describe them both like that... Johnson, probably, but Mustard is even more arrogant than John Dennis and Glenn Ordway.

I put on the Hub at 9 and Hardy and Trupiano were filling in and doing an excellent job. One of the topics was the use of Native American names/logos for sports team. That wasn't all that was on the table but nothing I'd expect to hear on WEEI unless it was done with sneering sarcasm...

I'm with SonicAl. I wouldn't listen to Hardy and Trupe every day but they're a perfect fill in/weekend show. Hardy keeps the show moving, and he and Jerry seem to enjoy working together. We'll see how long that lasts if Hardy brings Roadsteamer in for a visit.

I love it when Toucher & Rich excoriate and mock Gary Tanguay--one of their own!--for his haughty, self-important demeanor. Radio people sound lame when they 'protect and coddle' other hosts from their station. Here, Tanguay deserves all the ridicule that comes his way, and I think it's refreshing and 'good radio' when it comes from the station he works at. Someone has to take these sports media hacks down a few pegs.

I turned on Felger and Mazz yesterday because I thought that 'EEI would be overly defendive of the Patriots. Not only were they not defensive, but they were positively giddy that the Pats had lost. I expected that from Felger, but not so much from Mazz. Another thing I noticed was the scorn and derision toward the listeners. They actually didn't take many calls, but instead talked about how stupid the fans are. Isn't this the type of arrogance that WEEI is widely criticized for?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised about Tony Mazz. Being around Felger has to turn you into an a**hole.

Jessica Heslam is reporting on the Herald's web site that in November, D&C were in first place and Toucher and Rich were in 8th, Dale & Holley were 2nd, Tanguay & Zolak were 11th, and Ordway was 2nd and Felger & Mazz dropped from 3rd to 8th. I'm not surprised that Felger dropped, everyone's heard his contrarian act. It got him 0.0 before.

Does anyone know who was #1 midday and afternoon drive?

I enjoy the Sports Hub, I think they tend to be a little more repetitive in their conversations than is WEEI but they will most likely fix that as they determine how to work in interviews and get themselves more rooted as a legit sports outlet. One show I really do enjoy, often more then Felger and Maz, is Hardy and Trupiano (I know its just a weekend show but...). Good pairing of personalities and Trupiano often has insight and/or stories from years of experience announcing sports which he shares. I think both hosts bring their personalities into the show just enough to give a welcome divergence from the normal "latest buzz" driven banter.

The Sports Hub just took a gigantic step backwards by bringing on Gresh. Guess the management there went to the same "shove crap at the audience" school that the 'eei people did. So much for any hope that they will be better than 'eei.

Is it a requirement that you be a total nitwit to hire staff at a radio station??
