Having spent time at the CC Cleveland cluster, there is a good deal of malice towards Beck from the Kevin Methenys and the like. He has been bumped off a few CC talkers for local shows on middlefeeder stations.

He's already been bumped off 1450 in Sarasota. As to 1250, Beck's live clearance time is taken by the paying Duke and the Doctor. He might get the scraps from 11-noon used merely to generate audience for Roex. Or, 10p-1am if Tom Martino, who I don't think has yet figured out how to do a radio show.

Although, I don't see why WFLA would want to bump Beck, considering it's theoretically his launching and FLAGSHIP STATION.

I hate these clowns as much as the next guy, but let's differentiate between who's buying stations and who's using Big Mother Government's public-funded station to broadcast their rants not even worthy of podcast listeners.

Imus gets no ratings here or nearly anywhere else, but when you're whoring out the amount of time WHNZ does, you can tell your radio-uninformed clients, "We're huge! We've got... Imus!" Name value only.

1010 makes the most sense.

Think about it. When Infinity/CBS made the announcement about what the Stern stations were going to do, WBZZ was oddly listed as simply "Talk" with no mention made of what talk format it would have. Promos on the station continue to refer to Stern, as opposed to building up to whomever his replacement might be. In fact, no replacement has been named.

A Spanish AM is a secondary possibility, but not La Clasica Mega [or whatever it's called now.] Mega Communications recently shifted a DC station to the same format (Spanish oldies) so I don't think it's going to pull the plug on the one here. But other Spanish stations in Tampa remain in the running as a possibility.

Actually I thought he did the show from Philly now... that happened as soon as the show was picked up in that market....<P ID="signature">______________

The characterization of WMNF as "Big Mother Government's Radio Station" is one of the (unintentionally) funniest lines I've seen on this board in a while. If you were familiar with WMNF's history, you'd know that calling WMNF "Big Mother Government's Station" would be like calling Oberlin College "Big Republican University". Frankly, I'd think 970, 1040, and definitely 860 come closer to being government mouthpieces than WMNF would be.

Basically, the former senator (Grant) rewrote an appropriations bill providing funding for the state's public radio stations to say "no money for WMNF." His ostensible reason was song lyrics, but to all but the hopelessly naive, it was clear he was offended by the station having the audacity to present talk shows with a leftist viewpoint.

Generally, the WMNF talk shows, while definitely left of center, are fairly level-headed and guest-dominated. Any heat comes from the callers, not the hosts.
