"WELL I TRIED TO MAKE IT SUNDAY, BUT I GOT SO...

Those are excellent points, and much of what you say does apply in the world of commercial radio.

KEOM however, is a non-commercial operation. Underwriting and pledge drives are not a part of the stations' funding. It is basically funded with taxpayer money and leased tower space funding. Since I am a Mesquite resident, my tax money helps support the budget. So if one or two listeners complain that KEOM should remove damn and hell from the playlist, then I have the right to be offended and bring forth my own complaints.

The comparison between what private companies and public schools do is essentially apples to oranges, as PLEX mentioned.

As for the good book references, this is simply to show the word is common, even if the meaning isn’t. I mean come on, banning songs with references to a place called Hell? I guess we should ban songs about Heaven. Now before you laugh at that comment and dismiss it, keep this in mind. Kids today are giving curse meanings to completely innocent words, such as “You’re such a pig!” “Go blow your shoe” and so on.

I guess this means I am a jackass for sharing my viewpoint. He haw, he haw….

And now for my feeble attempt to calm everyone down a little... ;D

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye.

Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.

Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

I once saw Robert appearing live at McDonald's in Mesquite...he and I both got free albums there, courtesy of the old KTKS-Kiss FM around August, 1986. (OK, maybe I didn't know I saw him, but he and I were both indeed there!)

My album (or "ablum," as many jocks called them) was "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera, and I still have it; not sure exactly why, however. I hate that song. I used to do a fair Edith Bunker voice when it would come on, calling it the "GLORIA" of love. :p

And now, the KEOM version of "Teach Your Children Well" (renamed "Teach Your Children Squat"):

"...Teach your children squat,
Their father's thought, did slowly go by..."

There wasn't much there to rhyme with "heck," "Hades," "H-E-double hockey sticks," etc.

I'm also on the hunt for words that rhyme with "mularkey," "fiddlesticks," "darn," "bo-hiney," "doo-doo/dookey," and others so I can make some clean versions for KEOM that will at least rhyme some. "Witch" should work for Elton's "The (W)itch is Back" and Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl."

Its ok Robert. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, never surfed either.

Try this one:

“Hell I tried to make this work out, but I got so damn pissed off…..”

Uh oh…. I sense a moderator looking over my shoulder.

Oh and Mike, I may make another appearance, 364 days from now, at the 13th annual Taste & Trade in Mesquite. Those of you who caught our last remote from last night’s T&T know what I mean. ;) ;D

Uh-oh...sorry I missed that one! I do remember those wonderful State Fair of Texas remotes where the inexperienced jocks-turned-reporters would get the thrill of interviewing the 99-yr old cornbread bake-off winner at the Food and Fiber Pavilion. Why oh why didn't I have the recorder running... :'(

What year was this from, do you remember? I have tapes of some State Fair remotes from 1990 or 1991. I can't recall if the students were doing the interviews back then or not. Time to dig them out I guess. :)

I airchecked the T&T remotes from last night, and I'll upload the one I was talking about.
