Well, I was hoping to move back to this market!

After reading several of the past threads, getting back into the TC market is looking pretty hopeless.

I have laughed and smiled quite a bit when reading about some of my old employers.

Just looking for anyone who I may remember or may remember me...

Or anyone who has any info about a full-time on-air or production gig in the TC market. Thanks

I see ya lookin' but no one is posting.

;D

Background - I started off in 1998 at a little AM station in Castlewood VA as morning gal...went to their sister station in Lebanon VA (WXLZ - country).

Went on to FM94 in Marion (HVB station) and did a few things for sister station WTFM.

After graduating from college, I resigned from HVB to accept the night position with WINC FM in Winchester VA. I also VT over-nights for Real Classic Rock in Winchester.

Got hitched, had a kid and now want to move back to the TC market to be closer to my family.

I've applied to a few companies in the market recently but no offers as of yet.

Anyway, just found out about this site tonight so I joined to see if anyone had some help to offer or just find a familiar voice to chat with.

Hi, JGamble. Just a question for you...
Did you happen to work at Boise Office Products a few years back with my ex-wife, Jamie Mullins, now Jamie Hinson? If so, you know who I am. If not, sorry. But your description sounds a lot like a friend of my ex who we hung out with on a couple of occasions back about 4 or 5 years ago, or something like that.
Again, if this ain't you, sorry. But if it is, lemme know!

Peace,
TightwadSquarepants...aka JT

Nope sorry - it wasn't me. I went to school with a Jessica Mullins!

No - I've only been in radio for the past 8 years.

Ok TWSP, I'm trying to figure out who you are... ???

Without divulging too much info, are you by chance a fan of 3's company?

I am J Thomas, aka JT. I worked at Holston Valley Broadcasting from 1991-2006, as Program Director on WKPT-AM, news reporter for WTFM and WKPT, sports board operator on WKPT, promotions assistant for WTFM and also jocked on WRZK when it was Rock 105.9 and 95.9 K-Rock from 1999-2006 doing middays from 2000-2004 and evenings from 2005-2006.

The real Tightwad Squarepants, aka the evil David Widener, and his higness, "King" George DeVault the second, fired me back on July 10, 2006 because, and I quote, "you just act like you don't want to be here anymore, so we think it's time we parted ways." That was it. After 14 1/2 years of loyal service, I got kicked to the curb. I gave up my teenage years, ruined my first marriage (that was part of it anyways) and many, many, many nights, weekends and holidays and family time to show my loyalty to a company that looks at employees like they do a piece of equipment.

Currently, I am working at Citadel Broadcasting on a part-time basis doing a variety of jobs, such as weekend and fill-in jock on WQUT, part-time news anchor on all five Citadel stations and producing/board-op for Dobyns-Bennett sports on WKIN. And while I really think highly of my new employer, it is pretty much starting all over again, thanks to Tightwad Squarepants. That's not a knock at Citadel, because like I said, from my short time working there, seem to be a lot better operation than HVBC. There's just no full-time openings right now, so I gotta do what I gotta do. I am thankful for the opportunity, though!

The four managers that I deal with, Bob Gordon, John Patrick, Bill Meade and Richard Lovette are good people and pros at what they do. Unfortunately, my old boss, Scott Onks, at HVBC is not allowed to exercise his potential and ability by Widener because he does not trust anyone. And, as I have said on numerous occasions on this website, the people at Holston Valley, Kingsport are as capable as anyone at Bristol Broadcasting or Citadel, they just have to stifle their abilities because David does not like people excelling.

Probably more information than you wanted, but there you go!

jgamble,

Come on up here to BBC, show us your resume, we'll talk and figure out exactly what you are looking for.

Mr. D

I have sent my resume to BBC. I've been told by a little bird that my resume and air-check was well liked, but that position just didn't pan out.

I'd be more than willing to send my package again.

If you like, you can find my email address in my profile on this site. Please, send me an email to discuss this further.

Thanks a bunch!

TWSP

I think you and I were introduced once at the Kingsport building. FM94 had me in charge of motorsports so I went to a few Nascar functions with Dwayne. Don't tell but I also sat in on a couple of Saturday Night Specials.

Oh those were the good ol days when all you cared about was radio.

It's funny that I have my own top-rated Saturday night request show now.

That's cool that you're with Citadel now. If anything, I've always thought that QUT had a kick-butt 4th of July program. Oh, and trust me, I know too well about working every weekend and holiday. ;)
